Stand

Already bigged up by FACT, this killer new Spanish producer mixes old digital boogie beats with  brass to create a winning mix of something feeling very retro but brand new. 

Stats

Part of La Roux's live band, Stats have a Talking Heads-tinged groove to them and sound incredibly summery. Shame about the weather…

Chet Faker

A debut album due very shortly following a series of excellent EPs. Signed to the fantastic Australian label Future Classic, his warm ballads underpinned by some lovely electronic beats could be one of the big crossover sounds of summer 2014.

Route 94

Nothing too clever about this warm house shuffler but it does everything spot-on and it's no surprise that it's set to be one of spring's biggest club tunes.

Gentle Friendly

Now signed to Fat Cat Records, Gentle Friendly's high energy fuzz guitar sound is impossible not to fall in love with.

Hockeysmith

If you like the sound of The Kills or Yeah Yeah Yeahs, you'll like the sound of new Cornwall duo Hockeysmith, who bring a similarly dirgey rock sound. Some great early tracks and easy to see why there's been a rush of attention in recent weeks.

Morgan Visconti

As you might guess, he's the son of David Bowie producer Tony Visconti, and there's a certain Space Oddity flavour to his music, mixed with some kooky synth pop.

Fitzroy North

Another fine dance producer hailing from Spain, Fitzroy North's mix of soundtracks, hip hop and oddball electronica all come together and sound very nice indeed.

Arches

Now signed to Columbia Records, Arches love of old drum machines and synths meld to make a dark pop sound that's going to be big in the coming months.

Jabberwocky

One of the biggest singles in France last year and now set for a UK release, this charming synth-pop act sound lovely.

During 4days at the start of 2013, Strand was given a second residency at the Red Bull Studio in Madrid. The first residency in the summer of 2012 resulted in the "Cajas sin ahorros",7“released by Lovemonk. This time round he had two ideas in mind: paying homage to G-funk and Gangsta Rap (drawing a parallel between the gangstaz and bankstaz of the current Spanish economic crisis) and working with a soul-afrobeat horn section which was conveniently named The Financial Horns. The project would also include his made-up band, The Banksters composed of Javier Diez-Ena from jazz-surf outfit Dead Capo, Mario Zamora from out-rockers Lüger and engineer and producer extraordinaire Oswaldo Terrones who has recorded tracks by Daedelus, Laurel Halo, Sonic Boom and Howe Gelb.Horns, analogue synths and digital live processed guitars are used to display the variety of Strand's music and outrage at the economic crisis. The result is the Bankstaz' Paradize 12”.

For once, the birth of this song came with the text, and its first two verses : "we are made of simple things, so why simple things are not what we succeed?" : it sounded like the story of my life ! So, I wanted a music that sounds like a tribal rythm, that evokes shamanism, witchcraft or something like that : short, an ancestral knowledge to which I do not have access...
