[LCKD007] Crematorium Guest Mix

@TerenceDonovan came to our second party in March (w/@Tessela & @PearsonSound) and a little while after, he sent us this mix. After jamming "Are You Sorted?" all summer we were inspired to create this podcast. A few months later, after playing night 1 of the 2016 Full Moon Gathering (w/Sorted co-founder @newnumbertwo) and at Sorted 4 (w/Cut Hands & Veronica Vasicka) we asked him to be a resident. We were floored when he said yes :-)

We asked Terry to write some words about this mix and here's what he had to say:

"Laserdrome: Peckham, London - 1993.  Mickey Finn is playing an oddly broad spectrum of jungle and techno. I remember enjoying the wider reach of his set at a time when jungle was starting to splinter in tighter subgenres. At some point the main room swelled with an influx of nervous looking ravers. It turns out someone had pulled a gun in the house room, and the house room had quickly emptied into the main arena.  This only added to surreal nature of a space that did its best to put you inside some sort of futuristic carnival ride.  The panic was obvious  on some, but others were quickly absorbed into the energy of Mickey Finn.  I tried to stay out of the crowd surge and stayed close to the stacks and a bloke asked me if I was sorted.  I was happily enjoying the mixed emotions of the night, when the police brought things to a predictable end.  Fast forward 20+ years and I wander into a Sorted party in Denver, and once again I’m enjoying dj’s who are reaching a little wider. Among the eclectic mix of the evening Arsonist by Micky Finn & Aphrodite gets played…All in all, a quality night."

Third release 003V "DMT/JASSS - MICK WILLS EDIT + CUT" that's an another dark electronic music experience, which includes new edit and cut by german musician and producer Mick Wills, known by his releases on such labels as Nation, MinimalRome, Rush Hour etc. Side A- super rare, almost unknown track by a russian industrial project DMT (Dmitry Tolmatsky/1970-2009), grabbed by Mosaique label owner Alexander Moralez from DIY audio-cassette. Thereafter it had some edits on Mick Wills studio. Side B- Mick's cut on never released track "Flexion" by Jasss (releases on Mannequin & Anunnaki Cartel). In his words, Mansour is "on a path of rediscovery in order to construct his own brand of authenticity. The mix I have presented for AW/OA, as Manny 'Nuff, is another exercise in mining the more nuanced bits that connect yesteryear into the present and beyond."

Originally from Chicago, and recently re-located to Denver, you can catch him around the building his unique presence through the transnational collective, Peer Review, which is focused on enhancing the already promising underground dance community.

SoLaRkaT AKA Victor John AKA Coldfuture AKA that dude from way back, doing the January 2019 mix for Moss Pig. 

This is another mix in an attempt to describe Front Range Hardcore, the acid-tweeked, ineffable style of the Colorado scene.

This episode is a reaction to the state of affairs today in our country, as well as a meditation on those who came before us and paved the way for equality among different ethnicities.

Martin Luther King Jr was a living cross-roads in history. For this recording I tried to place myself at that cross-roads, an observer & supporter. A perspective from right in the middle of the chaos, the tension of the Civil Rights Movement, and of the tensions that exist across our land in the present.

Alala One (@alalaone)- DJ, producer and all-around staple of the Colorado techno scene - is our contributor for the month of February. She has been DJing for over 15 years and collecting records for longer - and her mixes, needless to say, reflect her refined talent as a selector.  But her work within the scene has not been limited to DJing; she's also been intimately involved with the curation and production of the respected (but recently retired) Boulder-based festival Communikey.  With beginnings playing parties for CO's long-running collective Mother Earth Sound System (MESS), she's spent years immersed in her passion and has since spun alongside Nina Kraviz and DJ Stingray, just to name a few.  For her, DJing is a craft, and this cross-genre mix, which blends compelling, leftfield techno with off-kilter electro cuts, creates a deep listening experience that is fresh, surprising, and highly engaging.  It's.so.good.
