So happy to be welcoming ĀBNAMĀ  ( @abnama ) to the Animix series for number thirty-nine! The incredibly genre-diverse Berlin based DJ is a co-organiser of DUMP, a queer rave that celebrated it's fifth year of life in 2020. Also a resident of another iconic Berlin queer party, Climax, she has been a feature of many euphoric nights in the Berlin queer underground. 

From the other side of the world, i've been enjoying her mixes for quite some time now, and I'm so happy to have her as part of the mix series.

Test subject 1.22 Kavil (@absorb-label / @city-bleus) dissipates and reforms, melding tenderness and volatility like a fray of tidal sets. Caustic waves in each cluster crash down; surface tension fractures on impact... the corrosive liquid slips back into the deep; enduring, infinite. Tension re-engages, splitting the lull to restart the hypnotic cycle that craves finality.

"[The image] seems really tranquil at the back but it’s obvious that the foreground is hogging. Taken together, their interaction feels muddled to me... almost unstable. I’ve spent some time staring at this composition and six versions later, here we are. A tension-to-resolution that is quietly raging. Meet me in between the black and blue :3"

Test Subject 1.24 Marley Swain @marleyys gently guides us through sonification of a dense subaquatic ecosystem, separating from the constraints of linearity to explore and circle back to every corner of the landscape. Feel yourself squeeze through bubbling, dimly lit caverns, brush past forests of kelp and coral, and get caught up in turbulent ocean currents as you explore Marley's Drexciyan world....

"The image for this mix hit me almost instantly. At first It was giving deep sea vibes and the more I looked at it I started visualising a forest in the mix too. So my imagination landed somewhere inside of some kind of aquatic forest deep below. Maybe somewhere Drexiyans go for a hike. Which I guess is why I got into some sub aquatic / deep bass kinda tip!"

Faultlines E28 - wasp: nest of feathers

We met Bristol's Boursin back in the all too brief punctuation between Covid variants, when it was possible for strangers to stumble around fields serenaded by distant, muffled bass bins together, and as with anyone we demand a Forecast from we liked the cut of his jib. 

He's an excellent DJ, a pint provider at the great Strange Brew and when asked to describe the mix he did so thusly:

"This mix is pure beach vibes, if your beach is two duvets surrounded by an unhinged number of candles as the winds howl outside. A soundtrack to the 'unprecedentedness' of the day-to-day, with any solace coming from seeking shelter with your mates. Influenced by the works of Claire Rousey, Francis Harris, Terre Thaemlitz and the international ambient cru."
