“It's been a while since I wanted to curate a playlist of Percussive, Hypnotic, Oldschool-grained tracks to honor an era of electronic music I adore: the 90s. This set was the perfect opportunity to do just that! The second part is made up of more recent tracks, but the mix proves that this was an avant-garde era for electronic music. Welcome to the third instalment of the FMB Discord Mixtape. Joining us this time, we welcome MDWILLS. Here are a few words from the man himself: 

Hey everyone,

It’s Matt here, but I go by my alias, MDWILLS. I’m a DJ and producer from Manchester, currently living in Newcastle since graduating from uni here. My introduction to electronic music and the dance scene stems from my big brother, who introduced me to Bicep several years ago, along with various other artists—and now, here we are.

I first started DJing at uni for a laugh, but it quickly became a passion of mine alongside producing music. I currently DJ at a few residencies here in Newcastle, which I began during my time at uni studying biomed. I’ve continued these gigs while working as a personal trainer.

Bicep have massively influenced my productions (I think I must have watched their Printworks live set a million times), along with many other artists, including Jamie xx, Overmono, Burial, Cameo Blush, Rival Consoles, the Cloudcore label, and so many others. Watching their lockdown set live with a projector and blasting speakers in my family home was unforgettable, so getting the opportunity to record a mix for them is incredibly special for me. Thank you for this opportunity.

This mix includes a lot of my favorite tunes at the moment, as well as a handful of my own productions. I hope you all enjoy it!
