Mysteries of the Deep presents a new album from UK-based producer & composer, Thomas Ragsdale & Richard Arnold, entitled ‘Transformations I’

A meeting of minds between family members – Thomas Ragsdale and Richard Arnold – instigated a serendipitous musical partnership, and ’Transformations I’ is the resultant first collaborative body of work. Ragsdale is Arnold’s stepson and both musicians share a fascination of exploring new sound terrain and innovative approaches to composition.

It began with Arnold sending a collection of his instrumental works over to Ragsdale who began to deconstruct and reshape each piece’s lavish sound palette, ushering in new detail with granular synthesis, micro sounds and live tape looping. Sounds were broken down, magnified and inverted, occasionally allowing glimpses of any original version to escape like submersed sands of time.

“A glimpse, a glimmer. A shimmer, a shade. Tonal delicacy, rhythmic suggestion. The soundtrack to a rich inner life. ‘Transformations 1’ is an invitation to the listener to dive deep within. The work of two artists whose kinship is not only filial, but expressionistic: each reconfigures the other, forging new paths in sound together. As past meets present, tradition finds its way forward. Lie awash in dulcet waves. Listen in as patterns emerge, blossom, dissipate. The finite expands. A gossamer beauty takes shape. Wavelet es el aka bajo el cual se esconde el DJ valenciano Mario Ortega.Este se caracteriza por ser un fiel defensor y activista del Electro en todas sus vertientes (teniendo este un especial interés en combinar este estilo con estilos como la IDM) así como del formato vinilo.
 
Su interés por la música electrónica comienza en la década de los 90’s influenciando por el sonido de sellos como Warp, Skam, Direct Beat o Electron Industries.  Posteriormente fueron sellos como Touchin`Bass, Ai Records o SCSI-AV los que fueron tallando su estilo como DJ hasta que en el año 2013 finalmente decidido dar el salto a los platos.

Su trayectoria siempre ha estado ligada en gran medida con el colectivo valenciano Hypnotica Colectiva (HC), siendo integrante de la plataforma radiofónica “Electronic Café Radio” durante tres años y organizado y siendo residente de las fiestas We Are The Robots (W.A.T.R) de HC desde el año 2014 hasta la actualidad. Por otra parte, destacar la organización del festival “ElectroCamp” junto con sus camaradas de Elektrodos, el cual se realizó en tierras valencianas durante dos ediciones, sirviendo este como punto de encuentro de muchos de los DJs/artistas de electro a lo largo de la geografía nacional.

Por otro lado, desde el año 2014, es habitual encontrarnos con Wavelet en las cabinas de algunos de los principales clubs de la ciudad de Valencia llevándole a este a compartir cartel con artistas de la talla como ADJ, Carl Finlow , Boris Divider o Umwelt entre otros.

Actualmente dirige junto con Sigma_Algebra el sello Tensor Norm, cuya segunda referencia en vinilo vera a luz a mediados de este año (ver bit.ly/3KImm3s para más información).

Although it has slipped from prominence in the current news cycles, Russia's aggression against Ukraine still continues to escalate.

As Ukrainian people are still in urgent need of support, we have come together using the only thing we know how, music.

We asked 21 artists from Futurepast's friends to create a track that keeps Ukraine's situation in mind and results in a compilation that is rather varied. We hear ambient and downtempo right through to more personal and abstract interpretations of techno.

All proceeds will be donated to the Ukrainian charity, Voices of Children, who are supporting children who have lost their parents in this war; the poorest and most helpless victims.

All the primal fears we got from those ancient times when we were head-to-head with it. There is something both dear and alien
about it at the same time. Our fears are natural. Fear is what makes us who we are. 
Being an enemy and a basis of a character we want to appreciate the complexity of this relationship. 
As the saying goes: only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

All revenue will be donated to charitable funds to support Ukraine and its people.

Nuestra próxima UEMA Series viene de parte de una de las personas indispensables para entender la evolución de la música electrónica en Valencia.

Es el turno de Fran Campos. Un hombre que ha dedicado su vida a la música electrónica, amante de los sonidos atemporales, coleccionista incansable de vinilos y un Dj con un pulso firme en cada mezcla.

Hablar de Fran es hablar de la evolución de una de las escenas más ricas y complejas del territorio nacional como es la valenciana. Es hablar de Le Club, Observatory, Excuse Me, Black Label o de Braun, propuesta impulsada por el mismo Fran junto a Dioni Sánchez dónde la música experimental era la protagonista.

Pero si hay que remarcar algo en la carrera de este DJ serían sus residencias Le Club, Observatory y Black Label (Miniclub, 2010-2016), esta última enfocada al House americano partiendo del sonido de New York hasta llegar a Detroit y con parada obligatoria en Chicago. Estas tres propuestas fueron las responsables de que Fran Campos sea una figura indispensable en la escena valenciana. Sus sesiones en esa época estaban encaminadas hacia un sonido minimalista dentro de estilos como el Techno y el House europeo pero con fuertes raíces hace sus orígenes americanos, además en esa época fue impulsor de que gran cantidad de artistas internacionales y que hoy son ya míticos pusieran sus pies en tierras valencianas.

Actualmente sus sesiones se pueden reconocer con cierta facilidad y es que en su ADN musical está marcada la búsqueda de sonidos muy profundos donde es difícil diferenciar las épocas ya que la atemporalidad en su mayor tesoro. Ya sea con Techno, House o Electro Fran Campos nos propone un trayecto del que es difícil apearse.

En la actualidad gestiona junto con F-ON (Alfonso Pomeda) el sello Memories On Wax (M.O.W.) y lleva a cabo los eventos Taiga en Madrid siendo ambos una clara
apuesta por el sonido Deep europeo, además de presentar de manera esporádica firmes propuestas en su Valencia.

Para esta ocasión Fran nos presenta una sesión en la que se ha inclinado más hacia unos ritmos rotos propios del electro pero todo envuelto en una atmósfera muy
profunda que es lo que verdaderamente lo caracteriza. Esperamos que disfrutéis esta sesión tanto como lo hemos hecho nosotros.
