Marshall Jefferson - Move Your Body [Tchami Tribute]

Relentless techno releasing machine !Organism has another hot platter ready for us to enjoy, this time coming from Uron & John V complete with a Keith Carnal remix. 

Uron, signed to labels like Analytical Trail and Refluxed Records, is made up of David Padilla & Juan Kue, Colombian DJs who have become some of the finest techno tastemakers in all of South America in recent years. Here they hook up with fellow Columbian John V, who is a Drumcode aligned producer based in Spain. 

Up first is ‘Figure 7.5’, a dark, thumping and lo fi bit of drum funk with groaning chords and a real sense of desertion in its groove. Unnerving alarm sounds and clever filters help add to the sense of growing tension and when it drops proper, it’s sure to take the roof off. 

This one gets remixed by Keith Carnal, a household name in the Amsterdam techno scene since 2008 and someone who has had his tracks played by the likes of Chris Liebing and releases on AFFIN. His remix is more melodically intense and hypnotically minimal in the mould of early Jeff Mills with its searchlight synths and serene pad work. 

Lastly, ‘Figure 7.4’ is a fat, rolling bit of techno with gloopy synths, double claps and a real sense of atmosphere in the grainy pads. Driven perfectly on a frictionless kick lead groove, it will carry dancers deep down the rabbit hole in some style.

10th November sees Curle Recordings favourites Hiver return to the Belgian label for the release of their latest EP, entitled ‘Air Castles’. 

Since making their debut on the imprint in 2013 with ‘Blue Aconite’, the Italian duo has since released two more EPs on Curle; ‘Same Mistake Twice’ in 2015 and ‘Soundescence’ last year. Since the release of the latter mentioned EP, Hiver have been busy behind the booth, performing in the UK, China, Germany, Holland and, of course, in Italy, where they still hold a residency at DUDE Club. 

Kicking off the EP is ‘Elipse’, a stunning four-minute track that nods to avant-garde artists such as Wolfgang Voigt’s GAS alias or Brian Eno, as the pair gradually weaves several layers of shining, atmospheric tones before slowly fading into the background.

Title-named track ‘Air Castles’ follows, with the tight selection of drums combined with the ebb and flow of soaring synths creating a melodic style of techno that has become synonymous with their name.

Next is ‘Aleutine’, a song that similarly blends Hiver’s characteristically ethereal, hazy synths alongside more vibrant analogue bleeps to great effect. These delicate synths are later given the chance to gleam as the track comes to a close. 

Closing this excellent four-track EP is deep-groover ‘Leisure’, seeing Hiver up the tempo through their clever use of percussive elements, sharp synths and headstrong drums.

The latest release by the Mexican avant-garde label Akumandra is founder Sainte Vie’s three track auditive voyage: From Desolate Places and Forgotten Times. Going beyond previous experimentation with sound assemblage and sampling from non-western musical traditions, Sainte Vie crafts his signature mesmerizing soundscapes by combining dreamlike synth textures, monumental drops and vibrant melodies that feel deeply melancholic. Insistent arpeggios and expansive build ups bind the tracks together in an ebb and flow of dynamic energy.

High Seas 
Overlaid synth patterns, like waves, propel us into a mixed-percussion drop that settles on a harmonic calm before another surge of synth arpeggios drive us farther along into the thrilling sensation of voyage.

Whale
Disembodied vocals, like cetaceans communicating, echo each other, creating a ghostly undercurrent to the vigorous percussion and futuristic synth arpeggios.

Darko
Backed by an eerie melody and punctuated by a lead-heavy bass drum, a deep, guttural voice plunges us into the dark flow of time.

Spectral in theme and profoundly engaged with the sensorial quality of music, Sainte Vie’s EP transports the listener to a place that feels distant like uncharted waters, yet familiar like a memory.

A testament to the growth of Adam Beyer’s scene-leading label, Drumcode annual A-Sides Vol.8 is the brand’s biggest yet.

The 25-track strong compilation features standout cuts Beyer has received over the last 12 months, but been unable to find room for in Drumcode’s regular release schedule, such is the volume and high standard of music that’s submitted.

The highlight-rich compilation includes Jamie Jones & Darius Syrossian’s buzzy Drumcode debut ‘Eyes of the Night’, Nicole Moudaber’s first DC release in 5 years with the mesmerizing ‘This Is Us’, Will Clarke’s bass-drenched re-work of Adam Beyer & Bart Skils ‘Your Mind’ and Joey Beltram’s first Drumcode release in 11 years with the retro-tinged ‘Can You Feel It’. 

The beloved Alan Fitzpatrick returns to the fold with the searing ‘Heiße Rakete’, alongside label mainstays Layton Giordani, who drops the stirring chord-driven ‘Chrome’ and Wehbba with ‘Mantra’, combining techno classicism with future-focused groove.

There’s a troupe of debutants donning the Drumcode jersey for the first time, including BEC, Shelley Johannson, Anthony Castaldo, Avision, Zimmz, Woo York, SAMA (in a terrific collaboration with Secret Cinema) and Ilija Djokovic, who delivers a shimmering highlight with ‘Aura’, a particular favourite of Beyer’s over the last year. Raxon also debuts on the label after a couple of quality additions to the Truesoul back catalogue.

Exciting young guns Weska and Juliet Fox bring heat to the compilation, while Veerus and Timmo follow up strong DC releases with a repeat dose. Elsewhere faithful contributors Ramon Tapia, Jay Lumen, Luca Agnelli, Marco Bailey and Mark Reeve craft powerful dancefloor weapons.
