Chicago by birth, New York by choice, Midwest by grace, Luis Baro’s enthusiastic contemporary approach to and quickly growing talent for crafting deeply emotive dance music—that is as memorable as it is introspective—has been a fascinating purpose-driven personal journey.

Inspired through his lifelong love for the community, culture, and the sights and sounds found around, his earliest recordings began surfacing around 2010, seeing some of his first artistic experiments released by imprints such as Dust Traxx, Sampled Detroit, and Deep Nota Records.

Growing up on Chicago’s Northside in the late 80s and early 90s, Baro was found by the sounds of an entire vibrant underground. During this seminal period in the international development of American Dance Music, Baro & Co. helped raise the bar for a diverse array of artists they believed in and he hosted at his Vibonauts event productions in the 90s. Baro would continue to curate musical experiences for audiences by hosting satellite radio’s most popular dance music show at the time, Sirius XM’s “The Move” in Washington, DC.

Developing over many years what he refers to as an ”essentialist approach”, Baro casts a production web of musical spontaneity upon his unorthodox musical arrangements and structural sound design dreams to take listeners to new polyphonic planets. Multiples of Four, his second EP for Fresh Meat Records, sees him expanding on some of the Chicago/Detroit/New York emotive vibes developed in the Moment of Transition EP from 2020. This new vibrant three tracker gets the hypnotic remix treatment from one of the masters of this approach, Mr. Chris Udoh.

All of the proceeds from the Bandcamp sales of this release will be donated to Chicago’s Rebuild Foundation, led by artist Theaster Gates. Rebuild is a platform for art, cultural development, and neighborhood transformation. Inspiring social movements based in community revitalization, the organization’s projects support artists by providing free arts programming, creating new cultural amenities, and developing affordable housing, studio, and live-work spaces.

Forthcoming with another stellar release is one of Fantastic Voyage’s founding members, Danny Goliger. The producer, audio engineer, and instrumentalist presents his debut album, 'Meaningful Pursuits', a full-length IDM collection consisting of 11 tracks, representing his very personal growth as an artist and individual.

Goliger has captured some personal trauma and placed it into melodies, chords, and synths. These melancholy sounds are reflective of his healing from these wounds. When speaking about recording the album at that time in his life, Danny describes feeling like a broken computer simulation – glitchy and fragmented, which comes full circle as you listen to the record. His long-time musical collaborator, Benny Bridges, created generative visualizers for each track that also help convey this notion.

Deeply passionate about electronic music hardware, Goliger recorded this album at his studio in Echo Park using his analog synths, drum machines, and hardware samplers. Featuring a heady blend of experimental IDM/electronica, the album pays homage to his musical heroes including Aphex Twin, Autechre, Floating Points, Skee Mask and Proem to name a few. His penchant for audio engineering is on display, with this glitchy record showcasing a technical precision that blends seamlessly with his strong musical compositions.

Although this is the first solo LP for the Los Angeles producer, Danny is a prolific collaborator, producing and engineering on many diverse projects that span numerous genres. As a seasoned musician with many years under his belt, he can also be seen playing keys and drums in the Fantastic Voyage band and music-directing for Mija’s live shows.

Russian artist Dave Shtorn returns to our PHW Elements division with yet another astonishing warm and melodic production, this one named as “Elliptical Estate”. With his superb melodic arrangements, warm textures and always crisp and moody basslines, he once again proves himself with another glorious original on the label. We will always welcome him back on the label of course with productions like this. It’s definitely one to not miss out on. 

On remix duty we hear 2 brand new additions to the label with Peruvian artist Vandelor being first out. With a string of releases through his alias he’s become an artist that is held high in the genre of organic house and progressive. He’s definitely a name that is on the rise, getting more and more recognition and we are as excited as ever to bring him on the label flagship. With crisp percussion, emotional textures and still keeping original ideas to sense that one, he proves his skills with a heartwarming production not to be missed. It’s a true pleasure having him and we do hope a few more will get to know his music and productions skills through this fine work of musical art. 

We of course also delighted to see Brazilian native Peve make echoes through the label for the first time as he turned in a majestic organic house styled remake on “Elliptical Estate”. It’s surely another winner from him, including those rich, deep and emotional textures that he is getting more and more known for. As said, we are as excited as ever and truly happy and honored to see him team up with us!

The Baby Steps open with the crystalline innocence of Jacob’s Divine and conclude with the smooth primordial bubblings of Origin of Species.

The Grand Gestures begin with the harnessed dark energy of Feed Your Eye. Sensuous chills and thrills continue with Thousand Fingers, and Last Dance completes the narrative in some romantic sci-fi ballroom.
