The first instalment out of a series of auditory episodes, Audio Odyssey is a journey through samples. Greatly inspired by "The Odyssey", one of two major ancient Greek poems attributes to Homer, which was a rework of "The Iliad". A sample if you will.

MySpace, formally launched in 2004, was at its height from 2005 - 2008. It was a platform that encouraged self-expression and provided a generation of teens / young adults their first lesson in good ole fashion basic HTML coding. It was also integral in my early music discovery across the internet. Not only did I change my music player weekly, I also had a section on my page devoted to a “Lil Wayne Verse of the Week” (I recall being especially shook by his verse on Fonzworth’s C.O.L.O.U.R.S). The platform was a music lover’s dream, a time where Kid Cudi, Miguel and Drake the rapper were then fairly unknown, their impending fame right around the corner.

We’ve all been pretty welcoming to nostalgia in 2018 (aka the longest episode of Westworld ever) and hopefully this mix series takes you back to the golden age of no bitchassness. First up in the series, a look into the r&b bops of ’05-’08. This was a time of peak 4-count-intro-Pharrell, Bryan Michael Cox, Tricky Stewart, The Dream & Timbaland (side eye to Timbaland for how well that Jamie and Justin blended at 56:45 though). The bops were there, baby.

If you’re thinking, what about “Da Drought 3” Wayne? Pre-rehab Gucci? “Revenge of the Nerds” Lupe? Looking for a little Champagnechronicnightcap? I got you. Here we are at the turn of another year.

Just as the numbers in a year never fail to change, we know the one constant thing in life is just that - change. You'll change jobs, move to a different place. Some people will come into your life and stay while others won't. But at least for me, when I think about the past year and even just my life in general throughout all this constant change, the one thing that it always comes back to is the people in my life and how much I appreciate them being part of it.

So, in the best way that I know, I created this mix as my way of saying thank you and as a celebration of those same people - a mix that has a very uplifting feel that's also fun at the same time. Put a lot of emotion into this one, so really hope y'all vibe with it!

Let's keep showing love, and 2019 - we're comin for ya!
