For the first ever residency episode dedicated to a full label’s catalogue, I wanted to introduce the show listeners to a mysterious yet quite celebrated Toronto-based imprint called Marionette, and run by Ali Safi since 2014. Spanning over ten years of electroacoustic experimentation, with glimpses into krautrock, fourth world and musique concrete, this first 2025 Drumatic Spaces radio show tries to capture the diversity of artists, aesthetics and highly visual flow of Marionette’s releases, but with a particular attention on drum play and percussiveness (of all kinds, really). This results in one hour of sometimes goofy arrangements and childish sound manipulations, often colliding with a more terrestrial vibe and complex instrumentations. What comes out from the wizard’s hat must never go back, innit?
