Variations w/ FRKTL - 8th March 2021

We are glad to present Loris (@lorisms), a northeast Mexican producer with Palestinian ancestors, that blends in peculiar ways classical Arabic music with Latin drums and strings. 

According to her, this mix shows a part of frustration for the current life in times of quarantine, it emphasizes the sound textures in the productions of the artists that she has followed. She also mixes songs by women that inspire her, including Middle Eastern rhythms with which she has always felt identified.

One of the fresh flowers blooming in the fields of electronic music these days, HKKPTR hails from Leipzig, one of the epicenters of modern club culture in East Germany.  He stands in line with a new generation of DJs and producers, serving their audiences Techno in its rawest, most unrelenting form. With his musical roots in Black Metal and Hardcore he found early access to electronic music through Gabber and Schranz. Ever since, he's been continuously surprising audiences with his predilection for darker and more energetic sides of electronic club music while refusing to be put into any categories.

Grebenstein and Seefried – radical autodidact and trained musicians – have been working together for 6 years between longer periods of rest, intensive musical output emerged in short and concentrated sessions. A stripped back way of working, with only one drum machine, one synthesizer, and one voice, is reflected in the minimalistic and uncompromising songs they produce. Those who get drawn into the songs of the duo will find themselves simultaneously shocked into overdrive and lulled into a temporary peace – always guided by Seefried’s warm and deep voice.

At the end of 2019, in the year of the label’s 25th anniversary, they will be back on Regis’ Downwards Records with their new release “Raging Tender“.

Thegn（セイン）はJoy（ジョイ）という魂が生きている人の体に憑依し、怒り、悲しみ、不安の感情を表出した実体です。
Thegnの体はカナダのバンクーバーで生まれ2010年代初頭にインダストリアルミュージックとノイズミュージックの制作を開始しました。 
作り出される音楽はインダストリアルとも分類されますが、クラブミュージックや実験的なサウンド、メタルなどの要素も取り入れられています。
Thegnの音楽の中核には、仲間、文化、環境が人間のアイデンティティ形成に生涯絶え間なく影響を与えるが、死後はそれ自体意味をなさないという、儚く攻撃的な悲しみが音を支配します。 厚みのあるディストーション、混沌としたリズム、痛みを伴うボーカルを組み合わせたThegnの音楽の圧倒的な重さは、テーマだけでなくサウンドからも聞こえます。
2019年9月13日に香港のAbsurd TRAXというレーベルで最初のLP「Loss」をリリースし、2020年の初めにAbsurd TRAXともにヨーロッパ各国を巡るツアーを行い、ベルリンのBerghain（ベルグハイン）ではDis Figをゲストとして迎え、共作である「I Heard Your Voice」を演奏しました。

ライブパフォーマンスとして、観客と感情的につながるために、Thegnは音楽を即興で演奏し、観客を巻き込んでステージを作り上げます。包帯、黒い液体、カルトのような儀式、死者との接触、モシュピットは、Thegnの定番です。特徴的な悲鳴、奇妙なビジュアル、ヘビーな音、不気味なサンプルなどが含まれているため、心の準備をしておいてください。


Thegn is a non-identity. An entity by the name of Joy portraying the base emotions of the human experience in impassioned form, namely: rage, anxiety, and sadness. Thegn's host body was born in Vancouver, Canada, and began making industrial and noise music in the early 2010s. As their musical and artistic interests developed, so did their ambition of what industrial and dance music could sound like. At the core of their music exist themes of the effects our peers, culture, and environment have on the constant, lifelong negotiation of identity, and above all that an unending and aggressive sadness dominates the sound. Combining thick distortion, chaotic rhythms, and pained vocals, the overwhelming heaviness of Thegn's music is heard not only in the themes but in the sound itself. They released their first LP, 'Loss', on Hong Kong's Absurd TRAX on September 13th, 2019, and toured with Absurd TRAX through Europe in early 2020, including a mentally reconstructive performance featuring collaborator Dis Fig at CTM, in Berghain Säule.
As a live performance, Thegn prefers to improvise much of their set and play entirely new, unrecorded material created specifically for the event, connecting with the audience and going along for the ride with them. As well, the physical performance and audience interaction aspect is improvised: bandages, black ooze, cult-like rituals, contacting the dead, and moshpits are regular staples of at a Thegn performance. While the sound of the live set is geared towards the rave dancefloor much more than their recorded material, there is no absence of the signature screams, bizarre visual components, heavy instrumentation, and warped samples, all of this making the experience unsuitable for the faint of heart.
