I broke my little finger knuckle and metacarpal in my right hand three weeks ago. I only just had the cast off and so had to spend most of the day playing piano before I got any kind of workable movement from my little finger. The surgeon says playing the piano is perfect physio for my knuckle and finger as long as I don’t over do it, so I wrote this piece not only to celebrate piano day, but also as a therapy for my recovering hand. Due to this it’s not overly complex or strenuous, but hopefully says enough in it’s modest composition.

This track was recorded on an old upright piano. It includes lots of the piano mechanical sounds, like pedals, hammers, dampers moving & the piano stool creaking. There are also a few mistakes in this one pass improvisation, but I have left them in the final track, to capture what was, a moment in time, between me & the instrument.

Elephants In The Sky [Solo Piano]

Like a gentle rain in spring, she wants to be happy. Blue skys are permeated by sporadic clouds, giving chilly reminders of the past. Green buds on frail branches timidly risk growth in hope of achieving full bloom once again someday. April showers bring May flowers, at least so we hope.
