Hello again,,, after the big week end, and while I wait for the mastering of my new cd finishes I like to continue with my upright sessions.

I´d like to ask you all for advice,,, is the sound of this convincing to you,,, please be honest about it,,, there is lot of mechanic sound and the pedal has a nasty cracking sound, but in a strange mode I kind of like the sound I´m getting now. Does all this extra sound bother you? would you like to listen to eight songs done this way? cause thats the plan now if the feedback is good.

Thanks to Dirk for his advice on the upright setup,,, the mic´s are here under the keyboard, strange place to put them, with the cover underneath taken off.

December No.1 2014 - need advice, read descr.

Finally I´m somewhat happy,,  after some tinkering I think I arrived at how to set up my mic´s and how to play my upright for this project that has been building up for a long time -  And last night I did the first session of the hours albums.

The idea is to sit down and just record, and thats what I did last night, recorded 8 songs and this one is number two. Each album will be 8 songs named after the monastic hours, the circle of christian meditation that has mostly become lost in today society.

I really hope you like this idea and sound, and that some of you might even buy the whole album on itunes and bandcamp when the time comes. The other album Skuggaskil (physical release) is coming out next week,,, cover is finished and now they only need to print and put everything together.

When I was recording on thursday evening the piano started out ok, but then some old ghosts came back,,,  I also started hearing strange things and at a certain point in time I felt the piano was all out of tune.

Still I went on and this is the seventh song (of eight) that I did that night,,, the creaking is more apparent here again,,, but it´s hard to get rid off in mixing without killing the higher freqz.

This one is evening song, vesper, which is exactly at 18:00,,, and at that hour here in Iceland I present to you this song.

It´s finally out, Skuggaskil (Twilight), 18 tracks professionally done,  mastering and recording.  You could say it´s my first CD ever although I´ve done a couple of home made digital releases.

Every year now, at least past two year´s I have written a piano piece on this day, where the day is the shortest here in Iceland. In icelandic it´s called vetrarsólstöður, one of those words that foreigners think we choke on.

Today we had maybe 5 hours of sunlight,  the day length is 4h 8 minutes to be exact I think. However it was a nice day.

So to keep this tradition going I made this improv, that in the end became quite long. I´m still using my upright dampened, that is using the felt option but now I recorded it from behind so less noise.

No midi, no option to fix, so you could say this has not been photoshopped my friends.

Soon the days start getting longer which is always nice to think about.

(edit) just realized this improv is in sol minor,,,  how fitting :),,, not intentional
