Ani Phoebe is the Hong Kong based DJ and co-founder/director of Bad Times Disco (HK), an independent platform focused on digging traditions, diverse & eclectic music, community building, and the intersection of mutual aid and music. 


She has developed her unique style through researching and digging out eclectic styles of production by underknown artists from the 80s to the 2000s. One of Ani Phoebe’s areas of experience is the downtempo, cosmic disco, and synth pop realms, being a resident DJ of renowned underground music festival Cosmic Gathering (DE) and having performed at experimental stages on Nation of Gondwana (DE) and Atlas Electronic (MR). At the same time, her breadth also extends to heavy dancefloors and electronic clubs, performing sets that expand on 90s progressive house to 2000s eurodance, digging for rare versions of nostalgic numbers. Weaving through all her sets are emotional, often female vocals, and synthesized sounds in all of their diversity and power. A strong emerging DJ on a global scene, Ani Phoebe has recently toured Brazil, the US, and Europe in 2022.

When I met her in Hanoi in 2017 she was not yet a DJ, but I sensed something special about her power. Keep an eye out for Ani's future moves as she expands her activities in various places like Brazil, NYC, Hong Kong, India or Europe.(Teruu)

It was a joy to play the warm up set at Optimo's New Year's Day party in The Berkeley Suite earlier this month. The night started at 8pm (until 4am...so a long night) and the room took a while to get busy so I felt it was completely acceptable to veer into the stranger atmospheric territories of my record collection. By half an hour or so in, people had started arriving and dancing so things pick up around halfway through but I still keep the tempo down for a leisurely build. Artists featured include: Beige, Mauoq, Peter Power, C.P.I., Renaldo & The Loaf, Alek Lee, James Holden & Maalem Houssam Guinia, Froid Dub, Olta Karawane, Killing Joke, Mugwump, Girls Chat Room, CatCat, Alterleo, Lust Pattern, Ballistic Mystic, La Bottine Souriante & Legion Of Green Men, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Aiku. "Laurence McAulay aka Lárus is a London based Glaswegian DJ, radio host and club promoter.

He runs the Vicious Creatures party series which over the last 11 years has seen him share the booth with the likes of Job Jobse, Ellen Allien, DJ Fett Burger, Intergalactic Gary + many many more. Learning his trade at the Sub Club in Glasgow where he was a resident for 5 years he is now based in London where he has played sets at, amongst others, Corsica Studios, Printworks, Rye Wax,Pickle Factory, The Cause, & brilliant corners. Outside London he has DJ’d at venues such as Pikes in Ibiza, Sisyphos in Berlin, Oath in Tokyo, Club 77 in Sydney, Revolver in Melbourne & Potato Head in Bali.

Away from the club he has hosted shows on Rinse FM, had guest appearances on the likes of HÖR, The Lot Radio, Red Light Radio & Rinse France and is currently a semi regular resident on Glasgow’s Clyde Built Radio as well as having mixes on platforms such as The Feel My Bicep blog, Stamp The Wax, Ransom Note, Craigie Knowes, Bordello A Parigi & ZeeZout."
