At the beginning of the year we were in Wales. I think you can tell that I have no idea about the adventure we're about to embark on. This was only a few days after I had completed the application form for the job in Pittsburgh. Poppit Sands in St Dogmaels near Cardigan, Wales is surely one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Poppit Sands

Occasionally, when I'm not listening to podcasts I like to just listen to some of the sounds around me. People on the bus are happy to chat to each other, they'll tell you their tales. I like it when there's happiness. This was recorded around the time of the Tree of Life shooting and it seemed like people dropped their hard exterior for just a moment and seemed to give each other some support, coming together at this terrible moment. Although I much prefer the bus, if I drive in I park on Schenley Drive, a park just on the other side of the University Campus. In the summer you see deer and chipmunks, occasionally I hear someone practicing bagpipes.

Parking Up In Schenley

Arriving in my second house, I stayed in Edgewood, which as it's name suggests is just a stone's throw from Frick Park. I'm starting to settle in, getting ready for the family to arrive. Can I get everything done in time? Will the culture shock ever die down?

Walking around Egdewood

After my flight from London arrived late, I missed my connection and spent a night in Amsterdam and then another in Keflavik, Iceland. It was a bit surreal, I thought I'd never get to Pittsburgh, but perhaps the clear air was just the tonic I needed. Finally after two days of travelling, having left on Friday morning, I arrived in Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon.

Walking around Keflavik

Pittsburgh's transit system, colloquially known as the 'T' is a rickety tram ride from Downtown into the suburbs in the South Hills and across the river to the North Side. Everyone is on their phones, it rattles and shakes, there are no signs, I'm often on the wrong line and have to get a lift home from wherever I end up.
