2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. With a remix of ‘Sleepless’, a Pan-Pot track from their latest album, Stephan Bodzin closed the latest chapter of 2015 in what has been an exhilarating musical journey in his capable and creative hands.

Rising from humble beginnings like Icarus heading towards the skies, Singularity plots its course for the stratosphere as it heads ever onwards and upwards…but unlike Icarus this is a tempered and restrained ascent not an easy task to pull off but one that makes the impact so much stronger for it's subtle, ever evolving simplicity. 

With a melody that comes on like a half-remembered memory and lingers long after the sound itself fades away, Singularity stays with you, slowly and carefully weaving its way around you while its drums beat a steady, forceful pulse and its percussion jumps in and out like Billy Pilgrim skipping thru time. The combined effect is something much more than the sum of its parts. Somehow this simple techno tune creates an entire world of its own and asks you to inhabit it for a while, losing yourself in the process..

On the flip side, Monoloc exercises an equal and proportional restraint in his take on things. Like a voice emerging from a faded dream, the melody peeks out behind a curtain of reverb and industrial drums compellingly foreshadowing its full potential. Growing from there, the atmosphere slowly engulfs the listener until finally the slow build up reaches its full force providing a fantastic re-imagining of the original with an almost romantic yet no less powerful conclusion.

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

Biografie

Producer und DJ Göran Meyer stammt ursprünglich aus Magdeburg in Sachsen- Anhalt. Seine Liebe zur elektronischen Musik und Feierkultur entdeckte er jedoch bei der legendären Love Parade in Berlin. Aus dieser Liebe heraus startete er eigene erfolgreiche Veranstaltungen in Magdeburg mit Leuten aus der Tresor-Crew, 1040 Leipzig, Strezzkids, Bill Youngman, Markus Welby, Cannibal Cooking Club oder Hanno Hinkelbein. Viele Releases liegen auf seinem musikalischen Weg. So veröffentlichte er den Track „Improved Phatty“ auf dem Sampler „Petal Four“ bei Tulipa Recordings. Auch Releases auf Spielgold, Channel Recordings, Heimlich- Audio und Revolucion Recordings gehören zu Görans kreativen Werken. Die Butterfly Collection mit Remixen von Mathias Schaffhäuser und weiteren Acts, wurde im Jahr 2013 auf Balushi Recordings veröffentlicht. Namhafte DJs wie Richie Hawtin spielten bereits Görans Musik und auch die Marke JOOP! sowie SCHWARZKOPF greiften auf seinen Sound zurück. Görans introvertierte Persönlichkeit steht im Kontrast zu seinem basslastigen, treibenden Sound, der für seine Hörer eine trockene, deepe Atmosphäre kreiert. Und in einem können wir sicher sein: Er wird niemals still halten.

On basis of constant movement between the genres House, Techno & Ambient, the Pastamusik Member Thomas Werner knows how to prevent being put in a drawer.

For him, the art is in the detail – therein Thomas also sees the heart of a DJ. So he is definitely associated with the squad of storytellers and totally moves back any kind of selfstaging.

Inspired by ideals such as Barnt, Lena Willikens, Daniel Bortz, Red Axes, Bob Moses or Eduardo De La Calle he creates an own „soundworld“ in his sets, which reflects throughout unaffected by any hypes with fervor the passion to the otherness.

Thomas also receives special praises from stars of the scene like Marcus Worgull, Konstantin Sibold, Adriatique or Sascha Sibler for the outstanding caprice in his sets, which are peppered with well-defined peaks & breaks, velocity variations and not least the skillful interplay of current and long-forgotten sounds.

With the Pastamusik Gang he's already for quite some time in the spotlight of the regional scene in Germany and consistently personifies anew the avant-garde of the underground. Thus it's no wonder that he's an integral part of Munich's playground with performances in
whose most-wanted clubs such as „Harry Klein“, „Kong“ or „Rote Sonne“.

Since starting Plus 8 Records at the turn of the ‘90s, Richie Hawtin has shaped not just the sound of electronic music, but also the culture and industry around it, like few others. He developed the tool that went on to change the art of DJing (Final Scratch), established a seminal club night in Ibiza (ENTER.), built a veritable techno empire (M_nus), and most importantly, released some of the most memorable music in techno history. Now the latter doesn’t happen all too often these days, so we’re even more excited to present a brand new recording under a new alias, 80XX. ‘Crawlr’ is one of four 80XX tracks recorded in Berlin this year to coincide with the release of Hawtin’s new album, From My Mind To Yours – a raw banger that channels the energy of the early ‘90s while demonstrating how this Red Bull Music

With a string of successful releases already in their discography, Digitaria are no amateurs when it comes to creating memorable and unique dance floor hits. After putting out albums on both Hot Creations and International DJ Gigolos, the duo make their debut on Items & Things with the expertly crafted and undeniably authentic, 'Starburst Poems'.

Jumping off is the title track: A hypnotizing blend of spooky triplets laid over a rugged 'four to the floor' kick drum. As the wobbly lead constantly twists and turns, short sonic blasts of digital artifacts create the perfect contrast between organic euphoria and technological precision.

As with the title track, 'Again and Again' follows suit with a master combination of the natural and synthetic as the duo entwines a rich looping piano with seductive sine tones creating the perfect balance between polar opposites. All the while a haunting female vocal recites the track title resulting in an emotionally enchanting ride.

Wrapping up the EP is 'Over and Over‘, and again the duo create a uniquely magical odyssey by having opposing forces meet head-on. While rigid percussion constructs the foundation, wild arpeggios come to life establishing a strange, yet engaging campaign that fits superbly to any time and place.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!
