Benjamin Hudson returns to Acroplane, following his last projects with us as Ebola (Wrong Music) and one half of Baconhead, with ‘Slime’… and he’s brought a load of his talented mates to collaborate with him.

Brain Rays is part of queer collective, DOOMSCROLL, and Devon art & party crew, Bizarre Rituals. He is also a co-founder of Wrong Music alongside DJ Scotch Egg and Matt Lambert (Roger Species).

Known for his hectic, high pressure output with Quiet, and film soundtrack work (as part of Unknown Horrors) collaborating with director Dean Puckett (The Severed Sun, The Sermon, Satan's Bite) and Rhys Chapman (Wonderkid). As a DJ he has performed all over the world, including Transmediale Festival (Berlin), Today’s Art (Den Haag) and Boomtown Fair, as well as two live sessions at Radio 1's legendary Maida Vale Studios. As a producer he has garnered support from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, ETCH, Huw Stephens, Drumskull, Annie Mac, and Nikki Nair.

For the closing track of the album, Pizza, he's joined forces with Das Booty's Shadesy for a dark, thumping, ghettotech-inspired workout that's featured on Tom Ravenscroft & Deb Grant's BBC6Music show.

PREMIERE: Brain Rays - Pizza (feat. Shadesy) [Acroplane Recordings]

After a short hiatus at the beginning of 2024, we couldn’t be more excited to return to the digital series with it's fourth addition, courtesy of Newcastle-based Lace Atone.

The release kicks off with ‘Zonal Decline’, a dense and atmospheric club track with a droned out, percussive synth drawing subtle influences from the 90s techno sound of Robert Hood and Jeff Mills, substituting the typical 909 drums for off-kilter percussion.

The vocal sample in the title track, 'Beacon', features snippets of Joe Strummer's iconic wolf-like calls and creatively incorporates his in-between interval breaths from The Clash's post-apocalyptic anthem, 'London's Calling.' With Lace sharing, “The whole 'London is drowning' still resonates and holds true today."

‘Hue’ sees a more experimental side to Lace’s sound, with tightly interwoven sound design combined with a killer melody that tastefully nods to the early instrumental grime sound.

Rounding out the release is a familiar face to the label, and fellow Newcastle-based purveyor of all things weird and wonderful in the UK bass scene, Product Toss. Returning to the label for his second outing, Product Toss flips the opening track into a tasteful off-kilter roller with his trademark stripped back approach to production.

"In a wild twist of fate, a group of enthusiastic toddlers stumbled upon Aphex Twin's "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" while playing in a daycare center. Inspired by the title, they decided to create their own version using nothing but actual bouncing balls.

The toddlers recorded themselves gleefully bouncing balls of all shapes and sizes around the room, giggling uncontrollably as they did. To their surprise, the chaotic cacophony of bouncing balls actually sounded exactly like classic drum and bass music. 

When Richard caught wind of the toddlers' remix, he was both amused and perplexed. While he couldn't deny its creativity, he couldn't help but shake his head at the thought of his intricate track being reimagined by a group of playful toddlers."
