The Serpent, Adam and I (Song Cycle)

This piece was written in August 2010 for 5 part (SSATB) mixed choir. The beginning features a slow and deceptively simple chant like melody in 5/4 with other parts gradual adding and intensifying the text. Tonal and modal (heavily dorian) with an eventual modulation and final cadence to the mixolydian mode of Db.  Intensive breath support, transparent but overlapping lines and thematic washes of sound are all part of the sound world inspired by Yeats' poetry.

The Cloths Of Heaven

This is (probably) the 1st piece from a new piano suite.  The harmonic language is dense and more demanding than most of my other piano pieces.  The suite as a whole is meant to explore the things in our lives (both personal and global) that are frail or tenuous.

This is a pair of pieces written for soprano Mary Haddad and performed on her graduate vocal performance recital.
