Sterling Cutlass is the nom de plume of a multi-instrumentalist and producer for his Dub,reggae and dancehall projects. Although Sterling only makes his music for fun and the love of doing it, he has spent many years studying music. Starting formal music education and training over 30 years ago at 8 years old and continuing through to university, he has been professionally taught the  piano, organ and trumpet but is also self taught on guitar, bass, lap & pedal steel guitar, drums and percussion. Sterling Cutlass plays in many different genres and is involved in many varying styles of projects and has played in many bands of many different styles.

Beginning recording with a modest Tascam 4 track and a Casio keyboard and a guitar in 1999, he has moved from those humble beginnings to building a full fledged analog dub studio with a respectable array of outboard gear and instruments. Sterling always makes all of his music from scratch with everything always played live and recorded with all of his dubs mixed live, whether analog or digitally. Sterling Cutlass takes no shortcuts. He favors the simple complexity of subtlety in his music and you can expect to hear many hidden chord voicings, harmonic phrasings, poly rhythms and just the simple interplay of notes and rests of the different instruments playing off of each other. As Chopin once said, music is the spaces between notes.

As most modern musicians do, Sterling Cutlass expects very little recognition or acknowledgment in return for his investments into his lifelong passion and  makes music for the love of making and creating. With the philosophy that doing anything less than your very best possible, he believes that his love for music will only continue to grow and improve and to enrich his own life and hopefully the lives others as well.
