I began working on this beat a month ago and realized it was an opportunity to incorporate more synthwave into my collection with a touch of space rock. As I developed the beat, lyrical ideas began to emerge, along with thoughts of adding a guitar. This music could serve as a way to divert your attention from current events and transport you to a different place. It's like endless summers from the past, with stunning poolside views and well-dressed companions.

This is one about the election. The first line, I heard a lot on the news and talk shows right after the outcome, reassuring worried people that our country will make it through. I am not convinced we will, either way, it’s going to be a totally different America after these 4 years.

This song seemed a little over the top, so I went ahead and put in a gospel choir and a searing guitar lead just to make sure lol.

Sorry I haven't been on SC very much lately, I'm learning a new software app for my paying job and it is not making life easier, like I thought it would. I will be back soon!

@TexMex-Shaman of the Eclectic Collective had the cool idea to add a short hambone performance to the 'Country Ham' track he wrote and invited us to play on. He originally asked if anyone would like to try, but with no takers, he did it himself. I wasn't familiar with the term before but once I heard him perform it, I realized it was something I'd tried before too, and asked if I could take a stab at it after all. You hear it at the outro of the song as the music fades, but this is an isolated recording of just the hambone stuff - in this case boot stomps, hand & body slaps, and vocalizations. Thanks Tex for this awesome song, and teaching me this technique rich in Southern tradition. As a percussionist, this was a treat to record!

Memories est né d’une belle collaboration avec Eric Georgesco, initiée en décembre 2024. Eric avait composé, quelques années plus tôt, une mélodie très personnelle intitulée Memories. Dès la première écoute, j’ai perçu le potentiel de ce morceau. Il restait à trouver la bonne direction pour lui donner une nouvelle dimension.

Pendant plusieurs mois, le titre est resté en suspens, car je n’arrivais pas à lui insuffler l’énergie que je cherchais. C’est finalement en mars, après que l’un de mes proches m’ait encouragé à écouter Clara Luciani (que je connaissais vaguement jusque-là) que tout a changé. En découvrant La Grenade, avec sa ligne de basse percutante et son esprit French Disco, j’ai eu une révélation : c’était exactement ce qu’il fallait à Memories pour prendre son envol.

La voix de Delphine s’est ensuite imposée naturellement. Sa lumière, sa sincérité et sa douceur donnent vie au morceau et en incarnent toute la sensibilité.

Merci à Eric pour sa confiance, et à Delphine pour sa voix qui sublime la chanson.


Memories is the result of a beautiful collaboration with Eric Georgesco, which began in December 2024. A few years back, Eric had composed a melody he called Memories, a piece that meant a lot to him. The first time I heard it, I instantly felt its potential. The challenge was figuring out how to rearrange it to take it somewhere new.

For several months, the track was put on hold. I just couldn’t find the right energy to bring it to life. Everything shifted in March, when a close friend insisted I take a deeper listen to Clara Luciani. I knew of her, but hadn’t really explored her work. Then I heard La Grenade and its bold bass line and French disco flair hit me like a lightning bolt. That’s the kind of groove Memories needed to finally lift off.

Delphine’s voice quickly became the obvious choice. Her bright, honest tone full of candor and warmth, truly brings the song to life.

Huge thanks to Eric for trusting me with this project, and to Delphine for her voice, which elevates the song in the most beautiful way.

Rezz is the moniker of Isabelle Rezazadeh, a Canadian DJ/producer from Niagara Falls, Ontario known for her moody, dark-hued production style. In the latter half of the 2010s, she became a staple of the Mau5trap label, where she released a pair of full-length albums, 2017's Mass Manipulation and 2018's Certain Kind of Magic. An EP and spate of high-profile singles like 2020's "Someone Else" and "Orbit" followed over the next few years, leading to the release of her third full-length, Spiral, in 2021.

Born and raised in the Ukraine by her Ukrainian mother and Iranian father, she and her family moved to Canada when Isabelle was young. She also discovered music at an early age, and fell in love with EDM when she snuck into Toronto nightclubs while still in her teens. Rezazadeh began DJing at age 16 and moved into making her own dark, minimal-inspired productions soon after, teaching herself the basics with online tutorials. After gaining a following from songs she posted online, Rezz attracted the attention of stars such as Skrillex and Deadmau5; in 2015, she released the Insurrection EP on Skrillex's Nest imprint, then signed to Deadmau5's Mau5trap label, making her debut with the single "Serenity."

A pair of 2016 EPs -- January's The Silence Is Deafening and October's Something Is Wrong -- paved the way for Rezz's full-length debut, Mass Manipulation, which arrived in August 2017 via Mau5trap. The follow-up album Certain Kind of Magic appeared in 2018 and featured collaborations with Deathpact, Kotek, and Fytch. Led by high-profile tracks like "Falling," which featured Underoath, and the solo cut "Dark Age," Rezz's fourth EP, Beyond the Senses, was released in July 2019. Over the next year, she issued several popular singles including "Orbit" and the Grabbitz collaboration "Someone Else." Her third full-length, Spiral, arrived in November 2021 and featured a handful of guests, including American alt-rockers PVRIS on "Sacrificial," singer Dove Cameron on "Taste of You," and Fknsyd (aka Sydney Fisher) on "Let Me In." ~ Heather Phares
