I dedicate this list to the more rock-ish, indie, psychodelic, maybe a bit prog stuff i discover which i have to put on this specific list!  Various stuff hitting some nerve, more or less, firing up that gray matter! Mixture of more calm, harsh, psychotic and maybe also soothing stuff, instrumentals and also vocal stuff. Mixed up in a way that it is hopefully a unique listen experience.

We have a very unique sound and it is a lot of fun to work on music in a band, as suddenly everything goes 4 times as fast, as 4 brains are working and 4 styles are coming together.
This song was created, as Tot. had sent me a drum synth track which was already epic and dark, when nothing had been added.
So I played a bass line and sent this to Ken and Andrea who immediately came back with their parts, which I then mixed and mastered.
I hope you will like it very much guys.

Initially this started out as a jam on a looper. Instead of using a reverse delay pedal I recorded all the guitar parts into Maschine Mk3 and then reversed the lead to get a backward tape effect (I can't seem to get reverse delays to do exactly what I want.....!?!).

This track was written using my prompt-based 'Polka Poker' aleatory method. 

Many of the original prompts in this track are present, but there's a fair amount of creative license used to make it all work together too. Like the lead guitar being quite dynamic in the mix instead of just 'quiet'. But these prompts were never intended to be hard and fast rules but creative aids to encourage and inspire.

As I was growing up, I had a love and fascination of all the great prog rock coming out of the UK. Gentle Giant was like no other group at the time, and I spent hours listening to their music, constantly amazed at the songwriting and musicianship, as well as their totally unique approach. I did my best to cover one of their tracks from the very first album I heard from their output, “The Power and the Glory”. I worked my way backwards through their catalog and to this day, consider this group as one of my true inspirations to try to do something a little different.

I spent two years making Punto Ártica album as a whole, and I mostly played my mom’s Spanish guitar in the spare time. This theme and chords got shape with time, without any plan, in some different variations I’ve tried to remember and craft here.

Even a 7/4 vocal section had come up. In the spirit of this new profile, I asked Codi (https://soundcloud.com/noisealter) to adapt my translation of a poem I wrote when my age was about 1/3 than now (see below), and he also sung it with the passion and delivery I was looking for !!

Good morning my wonderful SC friends. Boy do I have a wild ride for you. :D

Today, I’m elated to share my latest (and third) collaboration, working with the musical mastermind… Carlos Vivanco (https://soundcloud.com/carlosvivanco-1, https://carlosvivanco1.bandcamp.com/). Very few people live and breath the musical world like Carlos does. And working with him is always a mind expanding event. This fellow seriously knows his music history, and he’s generous with that knowledge. I’m thrilled to be on the receiving end of that information. I learn a lot.

So as I’ve done in the past, I like to include what I learned about the song (and the music theory behind the song) while creating it.

For starters, this song is 7/8 (This is my second venture into that time signature. ‘The Seven Petals of Anemone’ was also 7/8). But Carlos threw a few surprises at me with this one, by performing some unusual musical math centered around my birth date… and concluded that 8/10/69 = 7/8 C Locrian mode. Carlos loves advanced and unusual time signatures, and is a wealth of knowledge in that regard. Here’s what I found out…

Locrian is one of seven modes (which includes: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolidian, Aeolean and Locrian). It is more commonly considered a modal chant theory from after the 18th century (although the original term dates back to the Greek regions of Locris). Locrian is also considered a minor scale. But it can be a major scale, if started from the seventh scale degree of any Ionian (not entirely sure what that means just yet. Haha).

On the white piano keys, the scale starts with B (but it’s called C Locrian mode. I’m still unsure how that works as well). The ascending form goes: key note, half step, two whole steps, half step, three whole steps. And Carlos makes it very easy for me by providing the usable notes: C, D♭, E♭, F, G♭, A♭, B♭.

That’s probably the extent of what I was able to pull from this one. I still struggle with understanding terms like 'diminished fifth'. And the phrase ‘the only modern diatonic mode in which the tonic triad is a diminished chord’ just melts my brain at the moment. But I’m getting better at this stuff every day, and that’s a wonderful feeling. 

So without further delay, Carlos and I are very happy to present you with our latest collaborative creation, ‘Seven See Locrian’. We sincerely hope you enjoy it. :D
