Imagine that all the clouds in the sky, all the darkness surrounding this land, are not just weather, but the result of a Dark Sun.

A silent sun, watching us from above with ancient, superior eyes. It does not burn, it does not blind—it only observes. Waiting.

It pities us, not out of cruelty, but because it understands what we could be. And still, it sees what we are.

... and when he found that he was bound
and finially did detect
the binding of his storybook's
superego infancy
and contemplated all his days and nights
and the fire in the pit, and how guitar strings sing
and swing back to all the songs they ever played
while his loyal self was off to work
to pay the rent and make a dent in debts incurred along the way
when they came due with each and every breath

oh desert mind, oh lemon heart
we should have taught the children from the start
and yes the moon was right
from the very first beginning , and every night since then
filled with our voices singing NOT
but sleeping longing in the dawning
of sentience and yearning
for the comforts of the twilight
and those bridges left behind
brightly burning in the dark
