Last spotted on VIVA’s 10-year celebration album ‘Decadedance’ last November, the mighty Groove Armada return to Steve Lawler’s stable for their first full single on the label… And nobody’s messing around here. The whole release smacks of every single thing we all love about both the duo and VIVA: A shared love for all things deep, dark and dirty, the return of one of the UK’s most iconic, cult MCs Slarta Jon and a mystery bass synth known only as Machine 101. We’ll let GA’s Andy Cato explain…

"When we closed the Other Stage at Glasto 2008, there were two complaints. One was from air traffic control at Heathrow because of the lasers. The second one was from the bass bin monitor due to the sounds coming from our DIY rewired bass synth. This machine, known as machine 101, was rediscovered eight years later behind a pile of tapes from the Black Light sessions. Never stable, it was now unusable, except for the single note and sound that came out when it was turned on. But it was quite a sound. So we let him roll, throwing in
some percussion from the local rhythm ensemble and Slarta's rising tirades. And so, against all expectations, 101 is back, with one last run at creating some dancefloor magic before he goes back behind the tapes for ever."

A low-end Lazarus; machine 101’s annihilating singular notes thunder through the track, characterising it with a certain sense of analogue danger that refreshingly counters the pristine over-finessed productions rife on today’s floors. With Slarta throwing down one of his signature spiralling hype flows, this really will have bodies,
minds and souls jumping and shouting in all the best ways.

Remix-wise Jamie Jones pays so much respect to the original he’s turned in two remarkable versions: The Drip Drop remix bumps with a warm synth bass groove that builds at Jamie’s command, gradually bouncing off Slarta’s rant with subtle elements of acid dripping into the second chapter. The Sponge remix, meanwhile, is a sharper, spikier piece of heads-down acid house. Creepy, edgy with a slight vapour trail of Black Strobe, this has 3am stamped into its very DNA.

Timeless rolling, rough-edged body-shaking house music in three of its purest, headiest forms… Plus a dub and cool story about lasers thrown in for good measure. As we said, nobody is messing around here.

January signals the arrival of @Butane ’s seventh release on his Extrasketch imprint, with a fresh three track offering entitled ‘Unchained’ opening 2019 with authority.

When describing Andrew Rasse, aka Butane, one may find it difficult to complete a paragraph without including the words ‘consistent’ and ‘quality’. Considering that these two descriptors can be applied across not only his extremely proficient studio output, but also his ability within the booth as a technical and prolific DJ, and an extremely successful A&R that has been in the drivers seat of some of the world's most respected labels for over a decade, and it’s easy to see why Rasse’s praises are regularly sung by high profile artists such as Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Adam Beyer. Now firmly into its second year of operation, Rasse unveils another quality three track offering on his burgeoning self-described ‘vanity’ imprint Extrasketch as he opens up 2019 in fine fashion.

Rasse opens the package strongly with ‘Hubris’, a heavy medley of crisp drum loops, hypnotic, hooky synths, and tripped-out vocal murmurs that combine skillfully to guarantee the production will find only the hottest dancefloors. Next, ‘Chained’ brings a slightly brighter aesthetic, employing a subtle vocal hook amongst a grinding, cyclical, machine-like groove. Organic drum shots fill in the negative spaces, and the track retains a firm foundation amidst a winding, woozy bassline. Lastly, ‘Nemesis’ sees Rasse switch things up, opting for a more stripped-down vibe. Crisp percussion licks layered over an infectious, brooding bassline and resonant stabs reveal yet another trademark B-side oozing with quality. Three more essential Butane cuts delivered for your record bag.

The next release on Matthias Tanzmann’s Moon Harbour will be a first appearance on the label for Steve Lawler with only his second EP of the year. The VIVa Music boss has long been a cornerstone of the underground tech house scene, not only with his own raw productions, but so too because of the talent he nurtures at the label, and the parties he headlines and hosts around the world from Ministry of Sound to Sankeys Ibiza.
The first track is ‘Silk Roads’, a purposeful house track that shows Lawler’s knack for crafting slightly tribal, always engaging grooves with rolling sub bass holding it all together. The production is meticulous, with plenty of contrasting surfaces rubbing against each other, folding in over and over and taking you with them each time. There’s as much for the head as the heel though, with a loft melody floating up top to finish off a classy bit of work.
‘Hoffman’s Potion’ doesn’t mess about and immediately settles into another of Lawler’s trademark grooves. Precision cut claps and hi hats bring height to the low down kicks, whilst muted but slightly ravey stabs add a mischievous edge to the track. Just as you get settled, the final third comes alive again with another lingering melody: it’s a simple yet effective touch that will bring reactions from the floor and keep people locked right until the end.
Refreshingly modern and typically well designed from someone with Lawler’s credentials, Moon Harbour have secured something a rare but deserved outing from the VIVA boss.

After delivering an unstoppable remix for Steve Lawler on Circus Recordings last month, the exceptional Italian dj & producer delivers his first of two Ep's coming in 2021 on Circus.

Both tracks featured label owner Yousef's live at EDC Mexico compilation earlier this year, he has been blown away by. It was due to come out in June but...
Alessandro was born and raised in Turin, Italy. Thanks to his parents, he grew up listening to Quincy Jones (and all his productions), Grace Jones, Sade and Pink Floyd.

He started getting into house music at the age of 14 inspired by the music of MAW, David Morales and Sven Väth spending whole afternoons buying records.
After releasing a couple of tracks on Tooloom (one as a collab with NYC house legend Harry Romero) in 2017 Alessandro decided to get into the studio writing only the music he really feels: the project Fioretti was born.

He’s now ready to make his debut on the mighty Yousef's Circus Recordings with a two tracks EP and a remix for the ‘King Of Space’ Steve Lawler
