Bee' is inspired by the microcosmos of insects, a world of intense/energetic flying behaviour, and could be described as a 'journey on the back of a bee', since metaphorically often places the listener in this imaginary position, as 'travelling' on the insect itself. The purpose of the piece is to evoke images or imaginary situations, and can be well described as a 'soundtrack without the image', as the sound is strong enough to let us -the listeners- mould the visual aspect in our imagination...
This work uses the language of electroacoustic music, and derived from digital processing of natural sounds (mostly sounds of insects) in combination with electronic/synthesised sound material.
The piece was awarded the Award of Distinction at the ARS ELECTRONICA 2011 International Competition on new media, category: Digital Musics &amp; Sound Art.

Chance is one of four pieces commissioned for and performed by pianist Sonya Lifschitz. As for the whole suite, this piece (loosely) references a Brahms work: In this case Study No.5 (for left hand alone) after Bach's Chaconne. The computer materials are not pre-recorded but created in real-time from the piano performance. These pieces were composed between late 2011 and early 2012 and received their first performance in September 2012 in Melbourne. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

Contrabass Flute: Richard Craig

Tekahtoa is a work informed by the unique sonic qualities of the contrabass flute, including the robust resonance of its articulation and key movement, and the idea of tectonics, the large-scale movements of the earth’s crust (derived from the Greek tektonikós, denoting construction). The title Tekahtoa is an onomatopoeic play on the word tectonic, with references to the most common articulations on the flute, t and k, as well as the manipulations of air streams that are composed into the work.

The work explores interplay between the contrabass flute and the fixed electronic part in order to create a dynamic and shifting soundworld informed by the nature of tectonic movement. The flute and electronics generate tension and flux by colliding with each other, breaking apart, grinding, and invoking chain reactions. On the flute, strong articulations and extended techniques including shaped streams of air are employed to emphasise the physicality of these constructions, and to highlight the impressive physical presence of the contrabass flute. 

Tekahtoa was commissioned by Creative Scotland.
