Past Present & Future Summer 2021 Set

One of TAU’s core family members and an artist who we discovered and nurtured from day one, Innellea returns to the label. Over the last couple of years it’s been amazing to watch Innellea grow and succeed, with his music catching the attention of labels such as Innervisions, Diynamic and Afterlife. Now he’s back with TAU, delivering a neat four-track package that represents his unique, melodic approach to electronic music. The Hypolation EP is another big stride forward for this artist, who continues to impress with his production prowess.

First up is ‘Returning Spaces’, which begins with a rather sombre atmosphere, stuttered beats and rumbling bass. Hushed vocals weave an emotional narrative, while the instrumental becomes increasingly emotive, Innellea building up the tension to great effect. This one runs at just over three minutes, but it packs plenty of feeling into that time.

Next is the title track, ‘Hypolation’, which demonstrates Innellea’s ability to inject raw feeling into his dance floor compositions. A myriad layers buzz and swirl around each other, cultivating an illuminating atmosphere from the start. Within seconds you’re locked in, riding the wavelengths until you reach the dramatic breakdown. Innellea teases the main riff back in with dexterity, and we’re immersed in the second half of the cut, which maintains its adventurous spirit.

‘Pathological Passion’ could be an apt description of Innellea’s love for making music. This one has a steady beginning, leading into a solemn, melancholy melody. The emotionally-driven core gently unfurls to become all encompassing. Innellea really tells a story with this cut, switching things up around the two-minute mark, before the energy of the first half returns in abundance.

Finally, ‘The Arrival’ takes us into the mystical depths of the Middle East, with Arabian rhythms and instrumentation. A euphoric, trance-esque breakdown guides us into more exotic programming, it’s warm, energising and life-affirming. A perfect demonstration of Innellea’s versatility and his desire to channel a range of influences into his productions.

Release Info: 
Up with his first foray on the label is on-the-rise talent, Tal Fussman. On the cusp of real big things, the Tel-Aviv via Berlin-based producer has already seen his tracks be charted by top-of-the-line jockeys and selectors including Dixon, Âme and Trikk. His debut incursion on Stil vor Talent, “Underneath The Surface”, puts on offer three versatile cuts, each of which displays a distinct and fascinating facet to Fussman’s richly hued musical realm.

Breaking the EP in, the title track puts forth a cold and frothing EBM signature. Built around pared-down samba-like syncopations and gridlocked drum architectonics, the track lays maximal emphasis on fluctuating layers of raucous machine spurts and sizzling portamentos geared to set the sound system’s circuits ablaze. 

“Protocol” then swerves onto further epic Italoid territories with warehouse-sized ambition, arpeggiated synths and piano stabs merging into an iridescent symphony of sorts, before “Truth” takes an unsuspected U-turn towards breaksy atmospherism and sleek, RnB-laced soulfulness. The perfect departure tune to an EP that finds Fussman showcasing the impressive breadth of his artistic palette.

Pick pick…pick pick… ein kleines plüschiges Wesen kämpft sich aus seinem Ei im eisigen Winter. Als es das erste kleine Loch in die Schale geschlagen hat, späht es mit seinem winzigen Auge durch den engen Spalt. Unser kleiner Freund konnte jedoch nichts sehen außer glitzerndes Weiß. Es musste schnell ein zweites Loch her, um mehr von der Umgebung außerhalb des mittlerweile zu klein gewordenen „tiny house`s“ zu erkunden. Doch auch durch das zweite Loch ist nur Weiß zu sehen. Leicht sauer piepst das kleine Küken und wendet all seine Kraft auf, um seinen Kopf durch die Schale zu drücken. Es stemmt und drückt sich gegen die Decke und mit einem Satz durchbricht es den Widerstand und auch die darüber liegende leichte Schneedecke. Es kneift die Augen zusammen, da es fürchterlich hell ist. Doch bald gewöhnt es sich an die Sonnenstrahlen und erblickt eine wunderschöne Winterlandschaft. 
Wow ist das schön hier, denkt sich unser kleines Pinguin Baby. Es fühlt sich jedoch schnell allein. Der Gedanke mobilisiert die letzten Kräfte des kleinen Rackers. Es springt aus dem Ei auf den Schnee und rutscht weg. Die Beinchen sind noch zu wackelig um das Plüschknäul zu halten und es stürzt vornüber. Unglücklicherweise ist unser Pinguinfreund an einem seichten Hang geschlüpft und purzelt jetzt selbigen hinunter. Dabei formt sich aus dem Küken bald ein Schneeball der immer größer wird und weiter unten sanft durch einen kleinen Strauch aufgehalten wird. Völlig erschöpft von diesem Abenteuer schläft unser flauschiger Entdecker ein.
Als das Küken wieder erwacht befindet es sich in einem Schlitten, der über die verschneiten Felder peitscht. Neben sich auf dem Fahrersitz erspäht es eine seltsam sympathisch dreinblickende Persönlichkeit. „Hallo ich bin Nicolas und habe dich am Straßenrand im Schnee gefunden. Ich dachte du könntest die Wärme meiner Decke hier im Schlitten gut gebrauchen. Zudem bin sehr froh endlich einen Mitreisenden auf meiner Tour gefunden zu haben“, sagte Nicolas. „Wenn du magst findest du im Handschuhfach lecker Plätzchen“, ergänzt er. Seit wann hat ein Schlitten ein Handschuhfach und hat er gerade Plätzchen gesagt? Denkt sich der Pinguin. Eilig reißt er die Verpackung auf und mampft zufrieden Zimtsterne und Vanille Kipferl.  Eingemummelt in der Decke und bedeckt von Krümeln freut sich der Pinguin, den für ihn heiligen Nicolas getroffen zu haben. Und seit dieser Zeit tourt der Pinguin glücklich mit seinem Retter durch die Clubs dieser Welt.

LineØrCircle has been behind the decks since he was barely toilet-trained, when he rifled through his parents’ vast and eclectic record collection and started experimenting with the controls on their old walnut-veneered record player. He grew up in a profoundly musical household, his parents being professional musicians who put him into classical piano and jazz guitar lessons from the moment he had enough motor control in his hands to hold a guitar pick.

He is nonetheless a completely self-taught DJ, buying all the necessary gear with money saved up from a part-time job as a dishwasher and learning by bringing a new piece of musical technology home, plugging it in, and pushing all the buttons until something happened. The first record he bought was a now-out-of-print EP of Anouar Brahem, Les pats du chat noir which includes “Leila au pays du carrousel”.

He began playing in local bars and clubs in his hometown of Beirut, getting his first break when the DJ called in sick at a local pub where he washed dishes. He soon blew up in Beirut and began playing in Decks On the Beach. He has since enjoyed immense success, blowing up dance floors across the globe (OK, OK, mostly around Venues in Beirut) to sold-out crowds. He has shared the decks with the likes of Nick Warren, Sebastien Leger, Kiasmos, Gorje Hewek & Izhevski to name a few.

He is also a prolific and respected producer, having released two albums and 10 EPs since he got up this morning. His most recent mega-hit track has been charted by every single fucking DJ listed on Resident Advisor and Discogs combined, with support from all the leading DJs signed to any label that ever mattered—plus his grandma.

LineOrCircle musical genres reflects his eclectic influences—from high-modernist integral serialism to jazz-funk fusion to Armenian epic poetry to oriental—all distilled down to pure, crystalline minimal techno. He’s not limited to minimal techno, instead combining disco, slow house, Ketapop, electronic and deep house to create a new sound that the entire staff of Pitchfork has been trying to name for the last year (the senior what-is-this-electronica-crap editor suggested “jigglestep” and then resigned in shame).

Recently, this guy has been collaborating with artists and producers to create “Living Room Sessions” - Beirut. A concept where the crowd can get intimate with the producers, inviting artists to play live and not mix on decks. He has been all over Europe and the MENA Region searching for new talents to boost this concept. LineOrCircle is now a sound explorer, a frequency designer and noise maker...

It's always a special moment when we get to feature artists that we have loved for many years and have the opportunity to include in our guest mix series. Mihai Popoviciu is no exception and we are very excited to have him onboard for this one!

Every artist has a signature—and Mihai is no exception. For over a decade, the acclaimed Romanian producer and DJ has crafted a distinctive sound defined by deep grooves, sharp precision, and an infectious, understated energy.

As well as his impeccable production skills, Mihai has gained recognition, both in Romania and abroad. From growing up watching clubs on TV to playing in them across the world, Mihai’s journey came full circle. His CV now includes iconic venues like Berghain and Watergate in Berlin, Fabric and The Egg in London, D-Edge in São Paulo, and DC-10 in Ibiza.
