AL LANDESS 1967-2022- Allen Landess was born in Irving, Texas. In '77 his family moved to Dallas. In the summer of '82 (high school), I met Al. He had just moved to Edisto Island, SC, a semi-rural coastal community 40 min south of Charleston, where my family lived. His parents were hoping their boy would stay out of trouble. It didn’t take long for us to find new trouble to get into. We used to go into the woods and take the tops off peoples’ weed plants. It was amazing we didn’t get shot. His late father, Tom, rest his soul, used to confiscate Al’s bong on a more or less weekly basis, Al would steal it back. Finally, Tom put the bong under the wheels of his Fairmont and crushed it. One night we got car jacked in Charleston, which had high crime then. I was driving and a gun was at Al’s neck. It ended with a long sobering walk on John’s Island that night. We started our first band with local Hardcore band Special Olympics' drummer, Dave Ring, called Civilian Chaos Corps, or CCC. Al: guitar, Joe “Skate” Hopke (RIP): vocals. In 2 yrs. we opened for Corrosion of Conformity, D.O.A, and did a show in Charleston with GG Allin.  In Sept. ‘85 Al moved to NYC to live with his girlfriend, Isadora. She hid him in her Parsons dorm on Union Square. In December of ‘85, Al came down to Charleston and talked me into quitting my job and move up north. We met Greg and Elyse from Raging Slab at the airport that day. The Al Landess Memorial Concert is on August 6th 2-4pm Tompkins Square Park and also the '88 Riots Anniversary where both Al and Ned were beaten and arrested by NYC's Finest but not their finest hour.
