When I confessed my aspiration					
The other kids would always laugh				
My deepest dream of an occupation				
To operate a telegraph							

How ridiculous, my father said
No one's used that thing for years
Exactly why it appealed to me
I yelled back through my tears

The Morse Code of dits and dahs, It felt like perfect symmetry
And so I loved my telegraph, Much more than new technology

I have worked the warehouse jobs, Restaurants and office staff
No market to do what I love, To operate a telegraph

I sold off everything I owned, and begged to pay for my next meal
Except my telegraph machine, the only thing I know is real

When people say the future's bleak, I smile and dream of a simple past
The news would travel coast to coast, on wires from a telegraph

I'm out of work in a viral world, No place for me on Instagram
The trade I have is out of date, And so I can't be who I am
