“Beans” was found on a 4-track home cassette dated between 1986 and 1988. Recorded at Cobain’s residence at the time, the song was initially supposed to appear on Nirvana’s debut album, Bleach. However, Sub Pop refused to put the song on the record and it was later released unofficially on bootlegs and then officially on With the Lights Out.
