This is a Guillaume de Machaut, Messe de Nostre Dame remix with original composition.  Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300–1377), a French composer and poet, composed this piece before 1365. Widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of medieval music, Machaut composed this Mass for the Cathedral of Notre-Dame at Reims.

This is a dedication to all the incredible cathedrals around the world that stand as some of the world's greatest achievements of art and architecture; whether you are believer in religion or a non-believer.  The ancient cathedrals of England, of Northern France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Germany and Sicily, the Baroque cathedrals of South America, and many individual cathedrals from Italy and other parts of Europe, are among the largest and finest buildings.  Many are renowned for their architecture or their decorative features such as sculpture, stained glass and frescos.

Many cathedrals, because of their large size and the fact that they often have towers, spires or domes, have until the 20th century, been the major landmarks in cities or in views across the countryside. 
Because many cathedrals took centuries to build and decorate, they constitute a major artistic investment for the city in which they stand. Not only may the building itself be architecturally significant, but often houses treasures such as stained glass, stone and wood statues, historic tombs, richly carved furniture and objects of both artistic and religious significance. Moreover, the cathedral often plays a major role in telling the story of the town, through its plaques, inscriptions, tombs, stained glass and paintings.

Having been born in the 1950s and then being a child and teenager of the potentially optimistic 1960s it has been monumentally depressing to see the outbreak of hostilities in Europe. The fall of the Berlin Wall and ensuing disintegration of the Soviet Union certainly gave rise to the now mistaken assumption that the Cold War really was coming to an end.  Perhaps we didn’t focus as closely as we should on the bigger picture... 

It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that to a large extent, the world would appear to be on something of a downward curve. The rich get richer, the poor and powerless are simply ground into the dust, merely collateral damage to an insatiable hunger for power.  I could write an extensive list of exactly where this is happening alongside those I believe to be responsible and do not for a moment doubt that you, dear reader, could do the same.  But why say what others have more eloquently said already?  Only a complete and utter fool would even try. 

Not so long ago, I was playing a few of my favourite Beatles’ tunes and as these things have a habit of doing, a melody somehow manifested itself out of nowhere.  Before long, I found myself singing the words "Not Back in the USSR", which seemed to fit rather nicely.  Until that point, I'd had no intention of writing a song about the war in Ukraine at all.  Nonetheless, that is precisely what I did. 

Of course, I blame Hans & Gal for taking my inoffensive little protest song and turning it into the Heavy Rock anthem presented to you here. Honest guv’nor, it's nothing to do with me.

In the last few years I changed the structure of it to suit playing live - with the 2 chords in the chorus on repeat we can drag the ending out in an extended jam - easy money! Recalling some tequila, love words and more with them in that Ibiza bar, I wondered: “What if Pink Floyd met the spirit of Camarón de la Isla… in my bedroom?” I used lots of guitars, basses, etc. on a 12/8 beat, to enclose 3/4, 6/4 & 8/8 rhythms along.

In December 2015, RIP OFF THE SCAB and DREAM DESTINATION were selected by a US A&R agent for promotion to artists, In July 2017 - HIGHEST ROOM also picked up by a US agent for promotion. July 2018 DON'T YOU TURN AWAY selected by NY agent to promote to a London soul singer. August 2018 LOVE MY LIFE assigned to BuyNZ audiovisual advertising. December 2018 WHERE CIGARETTES FALL forwarded by Taxi.com to US TV music director. Latest 3 albums seek to marry singer songwriter Imagery with multi-harmony musical movement. 2024 FLOATING INTO WONDER and ECCENTRICITY SO BEAUTIFUL got airplay on a New Foundland radio station. Dec 24 FAKING IRONY and COLLECT the MOMENT have have gotten a foothold in Spotify.
