Compost Heap

A complete re-recording in the key played live. It was one of those recordings that sounded really messy. Dropping the fader on the acoustic guitar I'd started the whole thing off with revealed a different direction highlighting case and drums. It's about females who stand up for the community against arrogance and male chauvinism and I see them in my work environment - this song is about them..

Nat wrote this beautiful song about the complexities of marriage that can lead to unfair assumptions, where one spouse takes advantage of another based on the “wedding ring”. The words attempt to get through to the guilty party in hopes of easing the burden on her friend and revitalizing the marriage.

I was struck by an article in the Guardian 10 years ago about a woman who used to hang out and work with the Rolling Stones in the 60s and the article was about adapting to old age while having nostalgia for such a potent time in her life. For this recording I had to change one word - 70 to 80. Musically it needed to be rhythmic but melancholic: something you got from major and minor seventh songs in the mid 70s as disco kicked in

The 3 of us have a really good Country Rock song out in a couple of weeks . Next up is a real rocker me and Kim adopted from Skippy ( Mary Augustson ) followed by a lovely song with lyrics by Tony Harris with an Easter theme . Charlotte and I have just finished a beautiful song , so that will be out soon as well as a great track that's being put together with Gaz , plus more from me and Kim and soon to put a song together written by David Dunham with Axel Menningen doing what he does best ! I always wanted to make a sonic companion to the last song Bitzone, Frawstakwa, and I made together, “What Difference Does It Make.” I finally got my chance. This one came together real fast. Bitzone sent me a raw beat, I asked Frawstakwa to kick it off, and then I made some arrangement adjustments and laid down my lyrics and vocals based on Frawstakwa’s. Bitzone then finished it up and bada-boom, gotta move, gotta shake!

Massive thanks to Frawstakwa for bringing the fresh ideas and original verse and chorus vocals. And big thanks to Bitzone for always make the tracks more vivid than I could imagine.

A dear friend asked me if I wanted to set one of his poems to music. Well, I did. And this is what came out of it...

The title of the poem is “Augenblick”, which means "moment", but literally “blink of an eye”.

Jerry Reed- I have his autograph on my old Takemine that is just about faded out.  Jerry was just inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.  Love this man and his music.  I have tried to play his claw type of fingerpicking, but it is so difficult and so many types of tuning.   I dropped my guitar down 1/2 step and played in drop D tuning.  The best I can do is to try and capture a little of his style

In December 2015, RIP OFF THE SCAB and DREAM DESTINATION were selected by a US A&R agent for promotion to artists, In July 2017 - HIGHEST ROOM also picked up by a US agent for promotion. July 2018 DON'T YOU TURN AWAY selected by NY agent to promote to a London soul singer. August 2018 LOVE MY LIFE assigned to BuyNZ audiovisual advertising. December 2018 WHERE CIGARETTES FALL forwarded by Taxi.com to US TV music director. Latest 3 albums seek to marry singer songwriter Imagery with multi-harmony musical movement. 2024 FLOATING INTO WONDER and ECCENTRICITY SO BEAUTIFUL got airplay on a New Foundland radio station. Dec 24 FAKING IRONY and COLLECT the MOMENT have have gotten a foothold in Spotify.
