ORIGINAL Citation (Oct 2014): Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) has uncovered a mysterious ‘song’ that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is singing into space. The comet seems to be emitting a ‘song’ in the form of oscillations in the magnetic field in the comet’s environment. It is being sung at 40-50 millihertz, far below human hearing, which typically picks up sound between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To make the music audible to the human ear, the frequencies have been increased in this recording. It's safe to say Hackman's got a fair amount of bangers in his closet. From the bassline driven 'More Than Ever' to the Alicia Keys-sampling 'Close' to the funk-swinging 'Change My Life', the Bristolian's output's been exquisite in the last six years. 

The list of labels he's released on is impressive, too, from Well Rounded Records and Greco-Roman to Futureboogie and 20:20 Vision. He's just added Halocyan to that with the 'Semibreves' EP, and there's a couple of heavyweight remixes from KiNK and Timo Maas.

The second remix for 'Index' was created by Necro Deathmort.  Despite their name, NDM aren’t an East European death metal group (!) but an English electronic music duo, of whom I am a big fan, so I was very happy when they agreed to do the remix.  It originally appeared as a bonus track on the digital single release of Postcard in 2012.

The first remix for 'Index' was done by Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson - Pat is the drummer on the original studio version and did a beautiful job, exactly what I wanted, but in his words…

"I saw a YouTube clip of one of your early shows and Marco was drumming up a storm and I thought damn that's what I wanted to do!  But as a session man on the original track it felt self indulgent for me to send you back a brilliant song with a 'drummer goes nuts' treatment when the song clearly stands on its own as chords and a great story it didn't need it.  But it was always in my head it could be Dave Grohl does Mike Giles over the bar line never stop drumming ... I had the multi tracks so said what the hell let the horses run and see what I can do….”

Don't Panic is the new album from British virtuoso acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter, Jon Gomm. 

Don't Panic is the follow up to debut album Hypertension, released way back in December 2003. Why the long wait? ''I made the first record shortly after I d put together a solo acoustic set and wanted to start touring: it was just a demo to get gigs. I made it a full length album because back then the gig fee was barely covering my petrol money, and I needed something to sell!'' This plan worked a little too well, and Gomm has been touring hard ever since, taking his unique brand of virtuosic acoustic guitar-playing to prestigious festivals around Europe and a punishing tour schedule centred around the UK and Italy, and a new album has had to wait. 

The new CD features stronger songs, exhibiting Jon's genuine grasp of a wide range of genres from blues to jazz to rock to country, which comes from his lifelong experience as a session musician and musical academic. Throw in some Urdu lyrics and you're getting the picture: a one man melting pot. The songs range from dark laments, to sweet melodies, to frenzied romps and there's even elements of the humour for which Jon's live shows are renowned. The guitar playing here is perhaps even more technically demanding than the previous CD too: ''Every time I arrange a new guitar part I make sure I can t play it without practice. I love the technical aspect as much as the creative process of songwriting, although they are very much separate affairs.'' And as with the debut album, there are no overdubs here, although it may sound like it: there is never more than one guitar on every track. 

Jon's fiercely independent approach to the music industry has meant that the CD was home recorded and is released on his own label.
