Entering the Maze

“Now You Are Free” is celebratory sentiment for anyone completing a grueling trial, whatever the case may be. A blend of adventure, romance, and triumph, this ‘Hero’s Journey’ type of piece was written to fulfill the requirements of the Master of Music in Film Composition at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program, under the direction of Emmy Award winning composer, Hummie Mann.

This piece was designed to showcase skills developed in the program and in doing so, I have modeled it to invoke one of the styles of one of my favorite film composers, John Debney. His music, and many others, inspired me to pursue film scoring and delve into understanding its amazing ability to simultaneously convey and elicit emotion to enhance the experience of life and film.

Composed, orchestrated, and conducted by Anton du Preez.
Recorded at Bastyr University Chapel.

This was my final project in my graduate film scoring program. It was recorded in Bastyr University Chapel with a 52 piece orchestra in Kenmore, Washington.
