Burden

I composed this cinematic song for my participation in the 8Dio standout contest of September 2014.... a composition and music song which is setting a new tone in my musical repertoire, a prelude for my new music in preparation, for my upcoming third album, broadening my musical horizon. At that time of entering the competition I did not had any mixing & mastering skills, which I have acquired afterwards during intense training and ongoing studies. Now, almost one year later, I wanted to remix and master my composition, to bring it to the next level, and I must say I`m happy with this result! If you would compare this new remixed & mastered track with the original one, you would immediately notice a big difference in the overall quality of sound and in the 3-dimensional depth.

My biggest source of inspiration for my music is nature. This recording is one of my ways to honor her. Listening to the pure sounds of the sea can bring you to such a relaxed and peaceful state of mind that you might wonder why you've never done this before.

This is professionally edited and mastered—a 72-minute long soundscape of the pure sounds of the sea. I recorded it myself on my favorite beach in Spain where I spent a lot of time during my childhood. I really love that place.
I had set my alarm to go off in the early morning, before sunrise, to be sure that there would be a minimum of sound pollution carried by the wind from highways and traffic, to make a nice, relaxing and peaceful soundscape of the pure sounds of the sea.

If you really listen attentively, you'll notice that this soundscape contains three different recording angles. I recorded the first 5 minutes of this soundscape while I was walking in the sea with my recording device on a long stick. I wanted to record the sound of the waves as they break and to capture the light, sparkling sound of the foam, which is left by the waves so you could hear all of it right through your speakers.
Then you really need to pay attention to notice that these sounds slowly change to the sounds of the sea as if you're standing on the shore in between big rocks. There's more echo here; and, at times, you really hear the sea hitting the rocks.
After 15 to 20 minutes, you'll start hearing the sea as if you're walking on the shore 15 meters from the sea; and then the soundscape concludes with a recording again from in between the rocks.

I never followed an official musical education—as a child I tried; but after two years, I was kind of traumatized by the linear and old-fashioned way of teaching and never
thought I'd be able to play any instrument or sing.   

From 2002 to 2006, I discovered playing the piano; and, in 2007, I started to take my autodidactic practice more seriously. Since then, I have practiced, performed, sung and played a lot, and attended several intensive workshops, all to discover new ways to express my personal sound. 

All the music performed during my piano concerts is self-composed and improvised in the moment. Every concert is different, although you'll recognize several melodies and musical passages as it is with improvisational jazz music.

You'll also find several of the melodies and songs I worked with on the album Into resonance. Though it's not at all my intention to imitate other musicians, I'll tell you this just to give you an idea: people often tell me that my piano music reminds them, at times, of music from musicians like Ludovico Einaudi, Eric Satie, Keith Jarret (improvisations), Craig Armstrong (piano works) or Michael Nyman (the piano).  
 
And, since I also sing a lot and use several other instruments besides the piano, people tell me that my concerts take them along on a trip through several world cultures.

What I'm often told is that people hear a lot of oriental, Arabic, Buddhist, Indian and native influences in my music. It's not my intention to consciously create these sounds; it just happens naturally. I'm just enjoying the moment and sharing music from my heart.

In this track, you hear me playing my all-time favorite flute: the Bamboo Sax or Xaphoon. I love this flute! Backed up with a minimal orchestration, using different 8Dio strings, and some gentle drums & percussion. I chose to name this track "Standing as a Rock". The vibe of this music brings forth the spirit to stand up for what I believe in; I hope it does the same for you, and for all those who are at Standing Rock as well.
