A New Definition: We are People who struggle with emotions and thoughts 


I’ve tried not to let this struggle define me
But I can’t stand the definitions
That’s why I’ve hidden this for so long
And now I’ll stand tall and say
I don’t let this define me
I have a new definition to tell the world where no one is devalued
To do this I have no choice 
But to lay it bare
No diagnosis
No stigma
Just my experience told in words that you’ll hear before long
Had you listened really carefully you’d have heard it in my songs
A new definition with less stigma, 
I’m coming out now with this against the stigma I was ashamed of created by society 
That I’ll be judged
Discriminated against
Belittled
That’s led me to hide behind definitions and words like mental illness,mental health problems, psychiatric issues
NO
We are just the people who struggle with emotions and thoughts
That way we are everyone
We will not be put in a box
Vilified on the news that it’s either us or a terrorist
We are you
We are your children crying at night because the world is falling apart
We are your friends terrified that the threat inside and out might not be as bad as we believe in our heart
We are your sisters who just wish that we could understand the world around us
We’re your brothers who are just tortured by the feelings left inside us
We are your lovers crying during the day because of chemicals that aren’t the same. 
We are your family starving and we might Not be eating in shame
And no, we are not to blame. 
We are a young girl saving the world and shouting at leaders although really afraid to speak
We are warriors we’re much stronger than you think.
If we could stand united we may be the missing link. 
We are just people who struggle who may need some medicine for peace of mind. 
Don’t judge us. In the same way you wouldn’t judge someone who has cancer. 
Don’t judge the people who struggle with emotions and thoughts. 
Don’t judge the three billion people who had the old labels and stigmas. 
And don’t lie to yourself that you are not also one of the people who struggles with emotions and thoughts. 
It’s ok to talk. 
This poem  was hidden for half a year as  I was still afraid to talk
Now I’m ready to be the next one who is not afraid to talk
So Give us a space to talk
Let us share our stories 
And please support us
