So, here we go again with a new release every week, an organic year-long album that will develop and flourish throughout the year.

It begins in a haze — a drifting patch from the Novation Peak sets the mood before the bass locks in and the conversation starts.
This is a swirl in the truest sense: synths bouncing off each other, tossing questions, answers, interruptions and asides. A little chaotic, a little cheeky — like a late-night jam where nobody’s quite sure who’s leading, but everyone’s deep in the groove.

Born during a livestream in Berlin where I shared my daily creative process — morning splurges, afternoon jams — this track has haunted me ever since. I’ve been chasing the magic of that original session, and this version finally gets close.
It’s a deeply personal nod to my early days playing in South African bands, shaped over time through countless live improvisations.
The first two and a half minutes paint a slow, sunrise over the savanna — warm, open, and unfolding. Then the groove lifts, and suddenly you’re in the thick of it: an African band in full swing, rhythms locked, spirit high.

Savanna Soul

The opener sets the vibe for the whole album — jazzy at heart, but with a firm foot on the dance floor. Anchored by a droning Moog bass and an off-kilter Buchla Easel lead, it straddles the space between heady improvisation and deep groove. The acoustic piano hints at my jazz roots, shaped by years playing with Cape Town’s township jazz bands — and sets the stage for the keyboard-driven journey ahead.

All That Jazz

Another child of the Berlin livestream sessions, this track almost wrote itself. It emerged around an insistent arpeggio — looping, morphing, multiplying — pulling the rest of the elements into orbit. I had little control over how it unfolded… and that’s exactly what made it work.
It’s a hypnotic ride of repetition and evolution — cycles upon cycles, abounding.

Cycles Abound

This one leans into a more tribal, percussive energy — the kind that creeps into your spine before you even realize you’re moving. Once the groove locks in, it’s over to three feisty synths to battle it out in a percussive argument, each one trying to outshine the other.
It’s chaotic, driving, and a little cheeky — a proper melting pot(tz) of rhythm and attitude.

Imagine a big funk band jam — James Brown’s crew at full tilt — but it’s just me, a synth, and a looped bass arpeggio holding it all together.
The Novation Peak takes on the horn section, firing off brass-style stabs, while other synth voices punch through like a rhythm section gone wild. The track started as a quick morning Splurge, then evolved through a live-streamed jam session. The final version you hear was carved down from that raw live energy — funky, fast, and full of attitude.

Micro Mouse

Some tracks just flow — this one practically wrote itself. From the very first Spurge (my musical version of morning pages), the dub techno influence was baked in. Deep bass, spacey textures, and of course, my trusty Rhodes electric piano — laying down dubby stabs and jazzy riffs that float around the groove. It's a classic slice of the Pottz sound: loose, alive, and soaked in dubby echos.

Dip, Dob, Dub

The album closes with a tribal jazz workout — a driving rhythm section underneath glitchy piano licks and plucky synth leads. The groove holds it all down while the piano gets as Loose as F$%k (if you're wondering about the name).

Goose as Duck

A subtle nod to my African roots, this track leans into a world music vibe — woven with layered vocals and a guitar-like lead that takes center stage during the breakdown. But don’t be fooled by the earthy tones — there’s a deep, subby bassline humming beneath it all, anchoring the whole thing in the techno realm.
It’s a cross-continental conversation — groove-driven and globally tinged.

What Sub Hum?

Inspired by my time playing with Sabenza and the legendary Basil ‘Mannenberg’ Coetzee during the apartheid years in Cape Town, this track is a tribute to the spirit of Cape Township Jazz — reimagined through a techno lens.
We played gigs under the watchful eyes of security police, but the music never stopped. This track channels that resilience and joy, blending the swing of the Rhodes EP with the drive of the Moog Sub 37. Over time, and through many live sets, it’s evolved into a dancefloor-ready celebration of rhythm, memory, and place.

Cape Time

Sometimes it’s as simple as sitting down and jamming. Funky Story is exactly that — a live piano session over a tight, rolling groove. No edits, no complications — just feel, flow, and a bit of finger funk. A late-night moment captured as it happened.
