Pausal is the audio and visual art project of Alex Smalley and Simon Bainton, both from Hampshire, UK. "Sky Margin" continues their exploration of combining mostly acoustic sound sources (instruments, field and vinyl recordings) with digital and guitar pedal processing. Although somewhat lighter in tone than it's emphatic predecessor, it once again sees the drier and noisier textures rising to the forefront whilst retaining much of the reverb-heavy drone based elements that have consistently marked their work. They have performed across the UK and in Europe supporting artists such as Grouper, Mountains, Stars of the Lid, Chihei Hatakeyama and Greg Haines.

Future Terrain combines ultra low, extended bass tones and organ-like massive sound waves flowing in a continuous, dark, pitch black loop. Created during the last weeks in March 2015, Future Terrain is presented as a 58 minutes long form track, released as a digital album and now available exclusively on Bandcamp for a limited time through the “Name your price” option. In Max's words: “During the long building sessions for Splendid Labyrinths, several tracks have emerged in parallel, and I've been slowly giving them form. One is Future Terrain, which I imagine as a remote sci-fi futuristic landscape. This music accompanied me for several weeks as a dark background filling the space in slow motion. Graphic designer Michael Rodriguez Pletz was created at the same time, from the original image rendering of the artist Lee Griggs, the ground which for weeks was in my imagination. 
Note: This piece is created for to listen to at low, subliminal level. But I suggest also hear it at a high level, feel it in your bones!

Manual: "Azure Vista"

A longform drone-ambient descent through a white dream-state where human presence lingers just beyond recognition. The album moves through fogged interior rooms of sleep, dread, fractured memory, and uneasy awareness. Faces appear and dissolve. Thoughts recur with altered meaning. Fear is less a threat than an atmosphere, a pressure inside the mind’s weather. As the sequence unfolds, one consciousness seems to awaken inside the haze while the rest remain suspended in passive drift. By the end, the album does not resolve into comfort so much as a grave, lucid acceptance: the dream has not ended, but it has become legible.

The Hour Before Waking

A dark and powerful descent into the psyche of Laxá. "Drop Down Father" replaces psych-rock warmth with an eerie and scary atmosphere, drenched in dramatic reverb and mysterious intent. Bjarne’s hypnotic bass and Matthias’s skeletal drumming provide the pulse for a track that feels more like a horror score than a standard single. It is emotional, bleak, and definitive: the dream is over.
