Sunshine, daytime fiestas, and open-air vibes are some of the reasons why we all love the summer! To celebrate this joyous season, we are excited to share with the latest EP by Hungarian artist James Cole, titled "Guestlist". Featuring two originals and remixes by Zlatnichi and Outway, this EP is guaranteed to turn the heat up this summer.

The opening track, "Guestlist", sets the mood with funky syncopated rhythms introducing the track, and a light yet groovy atmosphere growing on top. Arranged with numerous tense breakdowns and buildups of energy, this percussive roller is an ideal daytime festival roller. Taking the track into the darker side is the deviant remix by Zlatnichi. Stripping back the funky and syncopated percussive layers, this bare-boned track is built on top of a deep, growling bass foundation and mysterious synths flowing throughout.

The second original from James, "Uh Baby", picks up the pace, with accented kicks and snares making you want to move from the off. Fast and bouncy melodies move seamlessly around the track, tied together with a host of vocal snaps, gearing this track to heat up the stage in the day raves and pool-side parties. Outway compliment the original further with their signature medium-paced, heavily grooving sound. Percussive interludes and warm bass riffs drive the track, with the vocals from the original shining through in the breakdowns.

Chained to a ladder: There’s no way up. There’s no way down. You’re hung on a rung and there’s no place to escape as Dino Lenny delves into your innermost psyche with this heavy slice of pedigree Italian electronica. A Darkroom Dubs debut from the original craftsman, ‘Chained to a Ladder’ is ominous in its mood and tone, dramatic in its new romantic vocal style and uncompromised with its devilish analogue aesthetic.

Remix-wise, we’re unquestionably spoilt as label bosses Silicone Soul unleash their first production of the year with an immense 9+ minute cosmic bluesy stew, cooked slow and low with deep psychedelic flavours. A version that develops the original’s story in a stark way; this is what remixes were invented for.

Last but not least, Dino seals the deal with ‘The Right Place’. A broken drum mutant powered by technoid rocket fuel, its breakbeats drive a writhing groove that’s awash with touches of classic electro, new beat and hardcore with dark broadsword bass sweeps. Splashed with sudden blasts of synth colour, Dino’s signature sense of contrast is visceral, focused and direct. A true homage to every genre’s foundations and a salute to the future; tremors can be felt from techno to drum & bass.

As the recently released ‘Darkroom Dubs Volume IV’ celebrated the last few years of releases, Dino sets the scene for another exciting chapter for the label. A chapter that will see the label continue to explore its signature atmospheric late-night sounds and celebrate its 15th anniversary this year. We’ll leave you hanging right here…

At the forefront of the dance music landscape, DJ/Production duo and label heads, Catz ‘n Dogz are well and truly in the driver’s seat of their musical journey. With the release of their fourth studio album upcoming, they now release the second album track ‘There’, along with a series of remixes. 

Inviting a band of close friends and like-minded peers to collaborate on ‘Friendship’ LP, album track ‘There’ sets the tone for what is to come in the full forthcoming project. Featuring the captivating vocals of James Yuill, whom has a five-year working relationship with Catz ‘n Dogz, we hear talents on both sides work in perfect unison to create a warming, sun infused track. Yuill’s voice glides over the rolling percussion and synth lines of Catz ‘n Dogz, with the addition of Flamenco inspired guitar riffs injecting the sun. 

Kompakt co-founder Michael Mayer steps up on the rework, taking the track down a gentle and dreamlike path. Slowing things down, he keeps the original vocals with the addition of chimes, that glisten throughout. Contrastingly, Berlin based Terr opens her remix with plummeting kicks and bright synth melodies, transforming the track into a club ready version. 

As a pre-cursor to the fast approaching release of ‘Friendship’, Catz ‘n Dogz also unveil the album track listing in full ahead of 29th March. Showcasing the true array of friends and likeminded peers included in the project; James Yuill from ‘There’ appears alongside ZENSOFLY, Kiddy Smile, Polish rapper Taco Hemingway and Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho to name only but a few.

"My father and sister played several instruments and my mother had a Roland synthesizer. I was 7 years old. This is where it all started for me.
I tried to play the Roland and experimented by manipulating sounds and tunes. Trial and error teached me how to make inspiring sounds.

Sounds for me are a very interesting thing. Sounds, not only of music, but also from daily life stuff: footsteps in a parking lot, wind blowing or even a ticking clock.

Later I discovered Techno and eventually started playing. I was amazed by all the tracks that i could share with the crowd, sounds, effects, the vibe, the way people reacted to it, and most of all, what was happening inside of me!

I wanted to make this kind of music. I was mesmerized...

So i bought my first gear, it was a Roland MC909 and Logic audio. I started to experiment a bit and learned the tricks and trade by myself and through a music forum were I dropped my first try-outs I met Ramon Tapia.

He was my very first guide. He would invite me a few times in his studio at USA Import Antwerp and share with me a lot of inspiration and knowledge about music.

When it comes to music I get inspired by all kinds of events that occur in my life. I believe that my personal emotions are the basis for any musical creation. I might be a dreamer, but when I feel joy or anger, or when other emotions run high, I feel creativity tickle and that are the best moments to make a powerful track.

And sometimes, like a writers' block, there comes nothing at all. And that is also good."
