South Asian dance and electronic music rarities handpicked, remastered, and occasionally remixed. Featuring a lovingly curated selection of future classics from an overlooked era of South Asian House, street Soul, and Downtempo originally released between 1988 and 1994. Naya Beat Records is proud to present “Naya Beat Volume 2: South Asian Dance And Electronic Music 1988-1994”, the second instalment of their critically acclaimed series focused on uncovering South Asian sounds from the subcontinent and diaspora. While Volume 1 explored early 80s Balearic, Synthpop, and Disco, Volume 2 uncovers lost or forgotten future classics from later in the decade. The release spotlights a unique era in the late 80s and early 90s when fertile cross-cultural collaboration abounded in diasporic communities in cities like London and New York and when South Asian music was infused with Acid House, New Beat, and Dub.

There is a true wealth of sounds here, making this double album a truly treasure trove of never-before-reissued and previously impossible-to-find holy grails.

Often "too Asian for mainstream success in the West, and too Western for success in Asia," the pioneering music from this time was frequently released to short-lived success or relative obscurity. Naya Beat founders Filip Nikolic (aka Turbotito) and Raghav Mani (aka Ragz) have spent the last four years endlessly hunting through dusty records, obscure cassettes, and unreleased studio tapes to deliver a reference release for contemporary collectors, tastemakers, and bold selectors looking for fresh sounds.

Featuring an incredible gatefold package with Naya Beat’s trademark stunning artwork and exhaustive liner notes, the 2LP release has been cut to vinyl for the discerning DJ and listener by Grammy-nominated Frank Merritt from The Carvery, London.

This is Naya Beat’s seventh release in a series of reissues, remixes, and compilations dedicated to uncovering electronic and dance music from the subcontinent and South Asian diaspora.

Premiered here, “O My Baby” by Fantasy Nite Club is a dance-floor filler with its delicious funky gait triggered by beautiful and melodic vocals topping an OMG-bassline, groovy synth and guitar riffs, and naughty percussive elements.

SoHaSo presents a second compilation to celebrate their 11th birthday: Horizons. 11 tracks by current artists on the Utrecht-based record label.
 
11 Horizons will mark the route it is taking. It will be a long and winding road across futuristic dance floors and over soothing electronic fields. The album opens with two blissful chillout tracks. Label stalwart https://soundcloud.com/bas-dobbelaer draws the route for some serious laid-back unwinding. Or should we say rewinding, since the drum machine sometimes seems to move backwards.

Japanese super talent https://soundcloud.com/sooishi dives deep into details with a wonderful dreamy contribution. Ophelia has the same dubby feel as RAMZi but comes with a clear Asian twist. https://soundcloud.com/milio-101 debuts on SoHaSo with a dub-infused and slightly melancholic club track, while https://soundcloud.com/humanspacemachine drags us into the acid vortex.

While Horizons mainly contains new material, SoHaSo also looks back occasionally to give forgotten classics new life. Digital Fingerprint by Biological came out in 1998 on the now forgotten record label EC. More than 25 years later, its bouncy break beats still sound super fresh.

Dutch Techno producer https://soundcloud.com/quincemusic doesn't release much, but when he does it's always dope. Can't Hear You is spot on Detroit electro with a mighty strong punch. Label owner Nuno dos Santos delivers a melancholic beatless clubtool under his https://soundcloud.com/dwaalgast108 moniker. No kicks nor baslines but tons of Detroit-ish soul. 
 
Newcomer Small Solar System Body (https://soundcloud.com/david-hulsken) dives deep into dubtechno with Echoes of Entropy. Next year, SoHaSo releases an album by this talented producer. Dance veteran https://soundcloud.com/remyunger takes the route to motorcity Detroit on Mimpel, a driving techno track with beautiful keys and intricate melodies. 

After two albums, Far Out Radio Systems (https://soundcloud.com/thomasneyens) is ready for more goodies on SoHaSo. This City Is Ill paints a bleak future though, with its strong sentiments and black keys. Closer Rotiriot is by Dutch producer https://soundcloud.com/love-over-entropy, who only used one synthesizer for his upcoming album on SoHaSo, a Yamaha DX11. If you're into early Aphex Twin, you will love this.

I created this track for my grandmother who is three quarters Choctaw. In Choctaw, Hushtahli means sun. The sun was a primary object of worship among Choctaw.

This is the sound of celestial journeys and starlit dance floors. Deep Space Melodic House is a subgenre that transcends traditional house music, blending its hypnotic rhythms with the vast, ethereal atmosphere of the cosmos.

Imagine a journey through the dark, silent void between galaxies. This music is the soundtrack. It's built on a foundation of warm, deep kicks and subtle percussive grooves, but the focus is on the breathtaking, emotional landscape created by the synths. Expect lush, atmospheric pads that swell and fade like nebulae, and arpeggiated melodies that shimmer and loop, mimicking the distant twinkle of a thousand stars.

The energy here is not for the club's peak hour but for its most transcendent moments—when the lights are low, the smoke machine is on full blast, and everyone is moving as one. It's a sonic exploration that is both introspective and expansive, perfect for getting lost in the music and the infinite possibilities it suggests.

Steven McIntyre, born in 1975 in Münster, discovered his passion for music as a teenager at a British boarding school, where he immersed himself in various pop genres and electronic sounds. His journey into the music scene began in 1990 with an internship at the record shop King Music in Münster, which led to his first DJ experience. He quickly gained recognition, becoming resident DJ at the Cosmic Club and from then on travelling as Steve Stix. His first own events, with headliners like Miss Djax, Ilsa Gold, Steve Mason and Scooter, caused a sensation.
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Steve's career blossomed as he performed alongside renowned DJs and opened his own record shop “Dundrum Records” in 1999, which was originally planned as record label. With residencies at Maria am Ostbahnhof in Berlin and Cosmic Club Münster, as well as founding Monopark events, he continued to create a stir in the electronic music, which had a major influence on the electronic music scene in northern/western Germany, especially for minimal and early melodic techno. He also worked as a freelance record critic for various dance magazines (Raveline, Groove …) and on the jury of the German Dance-Music Awards in 2000-2003. 
In 2013 he founded his own event and media agency, also dedicated himself to artist management and graphic design. His commitment to music production culminated in releases on renowned labels such as Traum Schallplatten and Stil vor Talent in 2023.
