Recently featured in flagship label compilation Anjunadeep 13, Russian producers Makebo and Amonita present new single ‘Back To The Roots’.

With many releases to their name as solo artists on labels including Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream and Shanti Moscow Radio, Makebo and Amonita have recently becoming a powerful production duo, and last year founded their own imprint, Rubicunda, which has already won support from the likes of Tim Green and Volen Sentir.

Their new single, ‘Back To The Roots’ features the unmistakable strings sample from The Verve’s 1997 track ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ and shows off the pair’s prowess for crafting atmospheric organic house melodies.

First showcased by Hernán Cattáneo in his 2019 Burning Man set, ‘Back To The Roots’ has already seen support from the likes of Nick Warren and Vintage Culture, and after it was played by Anjunadeep label bosses James Grant and Jody Wisternoff at Printworks London last winter, it has become a hotly sought-after record, with over four million plays on YouTube already.

Why Bam Vol 3 - The Chillout Session

Rumours were abuzz on the island.. word on the beach was that the mysterious Eggnut was to be the special guest DJ flying in to close the mythical secret festival known as Magic Beach. As a close personal friend of Eggnut I can reveal that he did in fact parachute in from his orbital satellite home, telepathically controlling the decks throughout the descent until crash landing right into the DJ booth wearing a ridiculous hat consisting of spinning disco glitter painted nuts that was hand made by a gaggle of gorgeous beach goddesses. He then blew the festival away with Rachmaninov level keyboard chops played live on a toy melodica over a mindblowing 3 hour set of blazing sunrise beats and beautifully layered soundscapes with a one eyed pirate rocking the egg shaker and TwinZilla rocking the mic . After 8 months travelling on different shores the memories of playing those wonderful parties of last season still linger warmly in my soul,  resonating across time and space the sheer joy and love we all created there together, so I felt excited to be back on my favourite beach in the world last week where I recorded this 2 hour mix. Opening with deep and mysterious delicately enveloping grooves and building into a vortex of pumping techno influenced progressive, we come to a gentle close with some warm and organic tropical influenced vocal house. Close your eyes and be transported… with the wind and the waves… back to the beach…

After a beautiful afternoon of sparkles, glitter, face painting, sacred spanking, contact dancing and lots and lots of lemons I took the reins to steer the sunlit beach on a four hour journey through funky disco, slinky catgrooves, tropical island bass and uplifting progressive…  A snake line of dancing bodies on the shoreline under the setting sun and the rising full moon is an unforgettable memory of my favourite gig of the year so far…

The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony (Amonita & Makebo Remix)

An artist with a difference, Stevie Keys is an accomplished DJ who draws on his classical background to perform live piano over his sets, as well as a renowned producer with a history of releasing house music going back 20 years. You might not realise it but if you’ve been on a dancefloor in recent years you’re likely to be familiar with Stevie’s production as his original tracks have been released on some of the hottest labels around, licensed to over 100 compilations worldwide and supported by the world’s biggest DJ’s, such as Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Armin Van Buuren.

Born in Australia and always obsessed with music, Stevie Keys first trained as a classical pianist, before moving on to study sound engineering and completing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. By the age of 18 he had a record deal as a solo artist and had performed all over Australia, supporting artists such as Bjork and The Prodigy on their tours of the Southern Hemisphere.

Moving to London at the age of 19 he went on to record under various artist names including Antartica (for seminal UK dance label React), Altitude (Bonzai Records/ Sony), Sound of Soho (with Eye Industries/ Universal) and Tremor (for the influential Progressive House imprint Platipus).

Some career highlights include cowriting songs with legendary artists such as Nile Rodgers & Bernard Summers, remixing for the likes of Sia, R Kelly and James Holden, hosting a weekly radio show on DI.FM (one of the pioneering internet stations for electronic music) compiling and mixing compilation albums such as The Art of Chill (Sony) and producing several underground club hits that broke into the UK singles chart and were subsequently licensed to major labels such as Sony and Universal.

Now resident in Koh Phangan, Thailand which is famous for the Full Moon Party but is also becoming a popular destination on the international DJ circuit. In 2015 he created the now legendary Why Nam day party, before moving on to found Bambu Huts, which is fast becoming one of the most popular music venues in Thailand. 

Finally settled in this tropical island paradise after years of travelling the world, Stevie Keys is the resident DJ/ musical director of Bambu Huts, where he created The Sunday Session in 2023. This weekly event quickly established itself as the premier party on the island and is famous for having a distinct & sophisticated sound focused on afro, organic & deep house. Here Stevie plays extended sets with live musicians every week alongside illustrious guests such as Chus & La Santa (Redolent/ Stereo Productions), Djuma Soundsystem (Iziki Global), Igor Marijuan (Akasha Ibiza), DJ Ino (Cafe de Anatolia), Rezident (Anjunadeep) and many others.
