The full program of twenty musical pieces is over two hours long and is selected from Stevin’s favorite compositions from the last 15 years, along with several unreleased compositions, presented in a new and unique form, and accompanied by beautiful, healing beds of sound created by renowned sound healer and master drummer Christo Pellani.

This organic music takes us into peaceful and relaxing spaces - a musical bridge into the dream state and beyond, leaving us with the feeling of rest in nature and connecting us to a higher state of awareness. The combination of all-natural, acoustic and non-computerized sound creates a fresh and deep musical landscape for relaxation, savasana, yoga nidra, meditation, contemplation, restful sleep and more.

Most pieces are based on traditional Indian ragas (“that which colors the mind") in the Alap style -- where melody is explored without rhythm, although some have a natural rhythm — but they are performed in a way that is easily accessed by the western ear.

With this, his eighth solo album, Savasana Yoga Music, Stevin McNamara continues his musical journey, inspired by the classical music of North India and the ancient sound traditions of the Vedic yogis.

Roy Ayers met Fela Kuti in Nigeria in 1979. They collaborated on a two-song project called "Music of Many Colors", leaning heavily into the ideas of pan-Africanism and Afro-futurism. It was a truly awesome and historic coming together of two legendary musical geniuses.

The project came at a rare moment of optimism in Nigerian politics: the dictatorship had ended and Nigeria’s first democratic elections were held. This helps explain why the LP represents a clear shift from Fela's traditional use of music as a weapon, and rather puts forth a message of positivity and optimism. In the track "2000 Blacks Got To Be Free," they make a bold and optimistic prediction that the world would improve significantly for Black people by the year 2000. The track begins with the vocals of Ayers, as he sets the tone for the project: “We’re hoping that by the year 2000; we know that by the year 2000, that’s even better, everybody will be knowledgeable.”

Four decades have passed since Fela Kuti and Roy Ayers put forth this optimistic vision, and, this very day, masses of protestors are denouncing police brutality and demanding racial justice for Black people. Dishearteningly, we are far off from Roy and Fela's prediction in 1980. It can be demoralizing to compare the future that Fela and Roy envisioned with the reality that we’re living in today, in 2020.

Despite this hard truth, I don't believe this track was ever about accurately predicting the future. I think it was meant to teach us that positivity, unity, and togetherness is what will get us to a brighter future. In 2020, this message is relevant now more than ever, and, though we know the road will be long, Roy and Fela remind us that we must always look optimistically to the light at the end of the tunnel, however faint it may look from where we stand.

Ho'ponopono Healing Mantra

The mysterious afro-soul of The Shaolin Afronauts first echoed across the dance floors of Australia in early 2008. Heavily inspired by the sounds of 1970's West Africa, Ethiopia and the pioneering avant-garde jazz artists of the same period, the Shaolin Afronauts draw on the this highly innovative and sometimes volatile era in music, using it as inspiration to create music with the same fire and intensity. 

Though there is something refreshing and original about the Afronauts, their music could be described as somewhere in between the heavy Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Ethio-Jazz of Mulatu Astatke. 

This debut 12 inch single combines all these elements, Journey Through Time having a hypnotic, spiritual feel, whilst the B side Kibo is totally exclusive to this 12 inch single, and is an upbeat positive groove, both tracks only hinting at the delights the forthcoming album Flight Of The Ancients (FSRCD/LP085) will contain.

Stevin McNamara has been playing and recording music for over 40 years.
He is in the unique position of being an accomplished 
Composer/Musician and a Recording Engineer.
This gives him total freedom in any music/recording environment.

Born in South Africa, Stevin started learning piano and guitar at the age 
of seven. He played solo and in bands all the way through high school.
At the age of twenty one, Stevin moved to the United States, where he 
had more formal training at Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass.
He has been involved in music ever since.

Although Stevin grew up with the sounds of African Music, he also 
discovered Indian Music in the early seventies and studied the Sitar with 
Ram Chakravarty of Benares who was then professor of music at 
Wesleyan College in Connecticut.
This diverse exposure to such a broad spectrum of music, ranging from 
World to Pop has contributed to the unique musical style he has 
developed over the years.

In the late seventies, after spending considerable time as a session 
musician in recording studios, Stevin became fascinated with what was 
happening on the "other side of the glass", namely the recording process
itself. This passion developed into a highly successful career as an audio 
engineer.

He has worked in the fields of Popular music World, Folk, Jazz, Film and 
Television in top studios in South Africa, England, and the United States,
He is perfectly at home in any State of the Art recording facility, or Live 
Sound scenario, even at Stadium Concert level. He is qualified to teach 
Audio engineering at College level.

Stevin has worked with well- known producers such as Robert John "Mutt"
Lange and a huge spectrum of recording artists (see Artist List - www.yogitar.com)
- from Paul Winter to Tina Turner- from Bryan Adams to Zakir Hussein.

He now lives In Ashland Oregon where he spends his time doing 
freelance recording, original music production, and live performances
