They’re not from Alabama and there sure as hell ain’t three of them, but for two decades Alabama 3 have been unleashing their unique blend of Country Acid House from their adopted home in Brixton, South London. Always doing things differently, with an outspoken manner, they are back with their new single “Following Rainbows” taken from their upcoming 12th studio album Women From W.O.M.B.L.E. Vol. 2 (2015). A departure from the sound they have become synonymous with, this single has been birthed from an unsolitary period of exploration. Instead of the usual sex, drugs and rock n’ roll antics, this track is cut through with 100% legitimate pop melancholy..... a tale of lost love, strange cities and borderless existence.

No. 1 best selling crime writer and Hostage Music protagonist, Martina Cole, met their vocal collaborator on this track, Velatronix, one evening in a local kebab shop. After hearing her sing, she made an introduction to Alabama 3 and “Following Rainbows” was recorded in their Hostage Music Studios later that week. The single will also feature on the Women from W.O.M.B.L.E album, the second volume in their W.O.M.B.L.E series (World Of Militant Beat Liberating Executioners). This record sees Alabama 3 leave a female contingent to front-line the record, giving freedom to the soulful mother’s and sisters of their community to explore the playing field in a male dominated industry. As a 9-1 male-female dominated band, they are curious… can feminism find its place among funky dance floors again? 

Alabama 3’s wild blend of the unthinkable, their proclivity for rock n roll decadence, and acute social conscience has made them a unique, and unstoppable entity in the music industry.  Their twenty year track record has seen them tour extensively all over the world and has included performances on Later With Jools, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Glastonbury and even quirkier events like longtime fan Stephen King’s book launch, to the funerals of the Great Train Robber’s Bruce Reynolds and Ronnie Biggs. I've been tied up learning how to be a dad for the last few months.   This is the result of too many ideas over too long a period so the kitchen sink was thrown at this track. 

I hear John Barry and Serge Gainsbourg in the approach.   The Easter themed titling was accidental!

This Is the Adi Mantra that precedes Kundalini Yoga practice, tuning one in to the higher self. Ong is "Infinite Creative energy in manifestation and activity". ("Om" or Aum is God absolute and unmanifested), Namo is "reverent greetings' implying humility, Guru means "teacher or wisdom", Dev means "Divine or of God" and Namo reaffirms humility and reverence. In all it means, "I call upon Divine Wisdom".

Bittersweet Alap

This is the theme section of "Aubade" from the album OM Guitar - It is inspired by the Raga Bhairavi - a beautiful Morning Raga . The principle mood is of longing by the lover for the Beloved. It is one of the most popular Ragas played in a North Indian music concert.
Aubade is derived from the French word - meaning something like the lovers are sad in the morning to rise and be seperated - one of those words that are difficult to translate but can easily be conveyed by music !

Stevin McNamara has been playing and recording music for over 40 years.
He is in the unique position of being an accomplished 
Composer/Musician and a Recording Engineer.
This gives him total freedom in any music/recording environment.

Born in South Africa, Stevin started learning piano and guitar at the age 
of seven. He played solo and in bands all the way through high school.
At the age of twenty one, Stevin moved to the United States, where he 
had more formal training at Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass.
He has been involved in music ever since.

Although Stevin grew up with the sounds of African Music, he also 
discovered Indian Music in the early seventies and studied the Sitar with 
Ram Chakravarty of Benares who was then professor of music at 
Wesleyan College in Connecticut.
This diverse exposure to such a broad spectrum of music, ranging from 
World to Pop has contributed to the unique musical style he has 
developed over the years.

In the late seventies, after spending considerable time as a session 
musician in recording studios, Stevin became fascinated with what was 
happening on the "other side of the glass", namely the recording process
itself. This passion developed into a highly successful career as an audio 
engineer.

He has worked in the fields of Popular music World, Folk, Jazz, Film and 
Television in top studios in South Africa, England, and the United States,
He is perfectly at home in any State of the Art recording facility, or Live 
Sound scenario, even at Stadium Concert level. He is qualified to teach 
Audio engineering at College level.

Stevin has worked with well- known producers such as Robert John "Mutt"
Lange and a huge spectrum of recording artists (see Artist List - www.yogitar.com)
- from Paul Winter to Tina Turner- from Bryan Adams to Zakir Hussein.

He now lives In Ashland Oregon where he spends his time doing 
freelance recording, original music production, and live performances
