HighR8 Digital is an imprint which has run for nearly ten years and since its beginning in 2011 they have catered to the contemporary market, doing so by bringing their fans only the most upfront drum & bass which has fallen into their laps after creating such a formidable platform. Drawing from producers all over the world, they’ve been able to showcase both established names and newcomer producers alike, drawing from a widespread base to find the music which fit the ethos they created when they first started releasing music on the label.
An example of what this ethos means can be heard throughout Spaow’s forthcoming EP on the imprint. ‘Downtown Melody’ brings together a host of styles in the typically Spaow way, presenting a diversity which has been packaged by the producer and one which also features his tell-tale, biting spikes throughout. Whilst, as the name suggests, the EP is peppered with a musicality, it still holds weight through its smashing drums and contorted basslines.

Beginning track ‘Downtown Melody’, the EP’s namesake, goes straight for the jugular with its first breakdown. Pumping drum sequences and quaking peddles of sub bass draw you deep into the track, straight away letting you know that this is an inherently Spaow record. He doesn’t pull any punches throughout and every twist of bass takes you along with its driving motion. ‘Rude CPU’ rolls through next and it features glitchy, game-like samples which create a contemporary feel throughout. For the next part of the track list, Spaow delves into the world of ‘Run’. Formulated through old-school sound breaks and grating hooks, it’s a tear out anthem which is sure to grab attention across any dancefloor it’s dropped onto, with a neuro-jungle fusion. The final track is ‘Sonatra’, with Sqolsh brought into the equation for a collaboration, providing another slamming, no-holds-barred record which perfectly sums up the dynamics of this forthcoming release.

Jump up maestro Spaow proves his weight with HighR8 Digital. He brings the subgenre through his own lens and in doing so, creates some of the most versatile strains the drum & bass world has heard over recent times.
