Variation 18 of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini composed in 1934. Rachmaninoff said of this piece: "This one, is for my agent." as he sensed it would become a commercial hit. It's composed by playing upside down the original melody from Paganini. The original is like a piano concerto (solo piano vs orchestra) and I'm trying to do it on a single keyboard with sampled sounds.

The theme was used in the movie Somewhere in Time in 1980 starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

The instrument is a Clavia Nord Stage 2 using a sampled Bösendorfer grand piano and sampled orchestra strings.

We are honored here at Musicis4Lovers.com to be able to host the new remix from Nu and Acid Pauli of Daniel Bortz's beautiful composition, "The Misery feat. Nils Corssen". 

Daniel Bortz isn't a big fan of reckless experiments. A fact that makes this new release even more remarkable: he's breaking his own rule of not having his own tracks remixed.

Needless to say, he didn't just pick anyone to get this job done. His choice fell on some highly esteemed friends and colleagues, resulting in a quite remarkable package.

Acid Pauli and Nu give us their interpretation of “The Misery”, using Nils Corssen´s voice as a hook lead element, never losing the melancholy vibe of the original and still putting it into a rather dancefloor-compatible context.

Black Sabbath may not seem a natural source of inspiration for Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington’s ambient electronic collaboration Darkside, but the British hard rockers provide quite a canvas for the duo in the form of their moody, slow burning track “Planet Caravan.” Performing a cover for BBC One at Maida Vale, Jaar and Harrington exert their usual bouncy minimalism, and substitute Ozzy’s vocals for Jaar’s wobbly falsetto. The most stark difference is the drum beat, which on the Sabbath original was merely bongos. The layering of the guitars and the spacey synths somehow make the song even more astral than it was before. It’s become so thoroughly a Darkside track that it barely counts as a cover. This is music for stargazing, or perhaps, for staring at the place where the stars are supposed to be.
