Schneeweiss IV: a collaboration of neighbours. 

Over the years, Oliver Koletzki has continuously cited Berlin as a point of reference and, more importantly, a source of inspiration. Two of his albums – Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 – have been a direct ode to the capital. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin’s vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver’s heat. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Moreover, the Stil vor Talent HQ is situated in the centre of the bustling Kiez. 

So is Schneeweiss, one of Friedrichhain’s best and most loved restaurants. Over the course of eight years, the stylish eatery has impressed many a Berlin foodie with its contemporary take on alpine cuisine and attention to detail. Music is part of the experience here, which is no surprise due to one of the owners’ extensive background in Berlin’s club scene of the early days. Pairing striking award-winning interior design with a homely laid-back atmosphere, Schneeweiss welcomes everyone with open arms: Kiez locals and celebrities, students and businessmen, hipsters and families – all can be found here, Oliver Koletzki among them. 

Thus, after many a late-night label dinner an idea slowly formed. Why not join forces and collaborate on a compilation that represents both, Oliver Koletzki’s and Schneeweiss’ taste? Its been a little over four years since Kellerkind released his first song to the public ear. Sirion Records gladly offered him the platform to do so then and achieved the project "Bergluft" together, which received massive credits worldwide. This was the kick-off to his music career and was followed by many releases on renowned labels such as Stil Vor Talent, Flash Rec. or Hive Audio. Nevertheless he remained active with Sirion Records as well through remixes for other projects or also with his own vinyl release "Altro Mondo". The possibility to tell an extended story is the appeal of making an album for Kellerkind. This is his chance to introduce tracks that arent mainly focused on being "dance floor" music. He integrates this quite aptly and constructively into the album. The rather simple track titles represent moving moments in his musical development. Starting off with a quite jazzy number he makes full circle back to his roots in disco on the dance floor. As the title of the main track says "Disco on the Dancefloor" is ideally suited fort he dance floor with is groovy bass and poignant disco stabs, ready to thrill the masses. The rhythm and atmosphere of this song make summer approach just a little quicker. Continuing with "Its Like" - a rather raw number, shaped by its driving bass line, which takes the buildup of the album further and with its compelling vocals manages to contrast from classic deep- tech house songs. Kellerkind cranks it up with "Triple Distilled" - organs, trumpets, flutes and synchs. A truly musical piece, destined to make you dance. "Its 2AM" keeps that pace of movement. The catchy voices add that something special to the song. "Backflash" is next - this track also appeared on Kellerkinds recently released EP on Stil Vor Talent. Mighty sounds, staged dramatically - a perfect transition to "Play it Loud". Kellerkind relies entirely on melodic bass line at the center of this track and its strong sub bass to pull you in. The precisely placed, bizarre vocal cuts maintain the songs diversity and tension. This is one not to be missed on the dance floor. Concluding the Album shouldnt get your heart pumping, but rather melting into deeper, quieter tracks in which the artist takes us. The final track, the perfect ending to the album, is an incredibly melancholic chord sequence added to a cozy beat. Truly a successful, exciting, well told story. With their variations, the bonus tracks are an excellent addition to Kellerkinds signature style. None lesser than Channel X (Stil vor Talent), Animal Trainer (Stil vor Talent) and Jon Donson (Sirion Records) did the honors.

Where three is the magic number by Hip Hop standards, Kraak & Smaak have proven no exception. Hot off the heels of one of their most prolific years to date, the Leiden trio return to THIS IS Recordings to follow-up 2012’s remix duties for Sander Kleinenberg’s ‘Chemically’ with their latest aptly titled original ‘Hit The Club’.

Having led their inauguration to the label with high quality over mindless quantity, their ability to build strong moments in sound without bowing to popular convention is further apparent in their first release of the new year. Led by scattered melodic developments and slow grooving beats throughout, ‘Hit The Club’ employs hypnotic vocal builds to forge a landmark installment for the fast rising retro advocates.

Last found alongside the funk-savvy threesome for ‘The Journey’ with Ursula Rucker for 2012, there were few more suited to take on remix duties for the duos debut mark for 2013 than label head and world renowned DVJ Sander Kleinenberg. Returning the favour for the trios powerful remix of ‘Chemically’, his own take on ‘Hit The Club’ proves a suitably high-octane remodel from Sander, employing strong low-end undertones and stubborn beats for a strong differentiator from the down-tempo A-side.

Off the back of the year that saw them drop a full-length album, remix Moby and collaborative duties alongside Sander Kleinenberg and Romanthony alike, ‘Hit The Club’ looks to set in motion an essential year for the eclectic Dutch trio. With firm allegiances with THIS IS and Jalapeno Records already established, their funk-fuelled Electronic stylings have already scaled the globe courtesy of significant tour duties across Europe, North America and Australia – with 2013 promising yet further landmarks such a brand new studio album and global extensions of a sound placed perfectly to escape mediocrity in the name of integral Electronic music.
