Band History

Magnus “Guns” MacGinty unwittingly set his fate into motion in the late 1820’s when his cattle rustling stampeded through the services of the Southern Baptists in Alabama along the Chattahooche River.  Perturbed by the somewhat trampling interruption the Baptists tracked him down and paid what would be several French trappers in the East Texas area of the Louisiana Purchase to have him lynched in the name of the sweet Lord and savior.   

A little over a century later, though the unfortunate dumping of bathroom wastes from a saucer of aliens heading to Roswell in the early 50’s, his decayed corpse was infested with psychoactive fungus and alien spoor and he crawled out of the earth as a functional walking dead.  

Guns MacGinty has sworn revenge onto the congregation of Southern Baptists that done him wrong but finds it difficult now that they all have passed decades ago.



Heidi Heist born 1810 originally Charlotte Cavendish, wayward daughter of Lord and Lady Cavendish whose attempts to marry her off to the decrepit and depraved Lord Stratford were thwarted when she ran away to sea bound for the Americas disguised as a cabin boy and found herself in the employ of the pirate Jean Lafitte.  Her penchant for wild parties, Bourbon and raiding at night dressed in only a waistcoat and a pair of tight drawers brought her swiftly to the attention of The Southern Baptists of Louisiana who promptly declared her a witch and burnt her at the stake. With her dying breath she CURSED the Baptists and vowed would take her revenge and kill them all AND and their offspring until none walked the earth. She made pact with the devil to return to life until the deed was done.

Formed in 2015, Brighton via Bristol based Stone Cold Fiction have toured the UK and performed at notable festivals including Isle Of Wight, BBC 6 Music Festival and Dot to Dot. They have also played support slots for IDLES, Demob Happy and Cleopatrick. In 2018, the band worked with producer Marc Jones (Band Of Skulls, The Heavy) on a string of singles. The release of ‘Two Step’ and ‘Closet Psycho’ saw the band headline multiple tours of the UK, as well as Conges Annules Festival in Luxembourg. The last of the three singles ‘Drip’ was released in January 2019, closely followed by more shows, including a sold out performance in Amsterdam. 



After recording and releasing the three singles, Matt, Alex and Stephen were ready to push their experimentation to new limits. The context of an LP allowed them new terrain on which to do this. Experimentation with ambience, groove, structure and time-signatures were to lay the foundation for their debut album. 



‘Strange Times’ absolutely embodies the Psych-Rock experimentation and DIY approach that has come to define the band through its formative years. It began as a collection of musical sketches conceived by the band following their previous efforts and showcases various departures from their typical sound. Produced by Reuben Tyghe and working again with engineer Marc Jones, the songs were recorded live with minimal overdubs and additions to the mix. 



At its most progressive the LP presents 10 minute soundscape ‘Landscape’ and Darkly-Ambient 7 minute ‘Avoiding In A Way’; and at its most concise, provides the forward-moving groove of ‘CCTV’ which premiered on BBC Introducing in the West and was quickly made BBC Radio Bristol’s track of the week. More Fuzz labeled the album “a really addictive album, 8 tracks combining modern alternative and neo-psychedelic approach to blues licks and heavy atmosphere.”
