Today he is with a handsome jade cup that once belonged to one of the great leaders of the Timurid Empire - the great power that stretched across Central Asia, from Iran to parts of India. The owner of the cup was Ulugh Beg, the man who built the great observatory in his capital Samakand and who - like Galileo and Copernicus - has a crater on the moon named after him. Neil tells the story of the Timurids and charts the influences that spread along the Silk Road at this time. The Uzbek writer Hamid Ismailov and the historian  Beatrice Forbes Manz describe the Timurid world and the extraordinary character of Ulugh Beg.

Quickie from us: "So its really great when coincidences and fate find each other, because that is what happened… We absolutely were in love with this summer anthem by smallpools, it reeked of fresh cut grass and the afternoon sun... So when their ppl reached out to us about doing a remix it was the easiest decision ever. We can't say it wasn't a challenge though with such a strong vocal, but we really wanted to pin it up against the classic 'house music pluck' we have been hearing so much of, but use it in a vain that felt a bit different but still large, but finding that union was tough in the sense the two had to warm up to each other rather than clash... but in the end we think we found this great atmosphere for the song to exist."

A tight ensemble with electrifying soul sound, Alabama's St. Paul & the Broken Bones deliver captivating live performances with impassioned vocals, which has garnered an avid following. Founded in Birmingham in 2011, St. Paul & the Broken Bones consists of Paul Janeway (vocals), Jesse Phillips (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar), Kevin Leon (drums), Al Gamble (keyboards), Allen Branstetter (trumpet), Chad Fisher (trombone), and Amari Ansari (saxophone).  

The band made their recording debut in 2014 with Half the City, an album that introduced an ideal recording as a counterpart to their frenetic shows - including the platinum hit “Call Me.” The group has continued to expand their sound with every record, branching out well beyond old-school soul into sleek summertime funk, with a few glimmers of straight-up disco on albums such as 2018's Young Sick Camellia.
