I hear him on the radio talking, 
I watch him on the TV news, 
Some people tell me he’s a popular fella, 
Some people say they disapprove

On the surface he’s an intellectual, 
On the surface he’s a leader of men, 
I really want to get to know him better, 
I really want to be his friend

He isn’t left, he isn’t right, 
There’s no one specific in my mind, 
He’s a preacher to the choir, 
He’s a cheater, he’s a liar

And we hate him like nobody does, 
We love him…

All he wants is a master narrative, 
Something on which he can rely and build his life around, 
He took a look at religion and bits of conflicting political thinking, 
For all it’s worth, 
And now he’s one stop on the train from his heaven on Earth

I tell you what I think he’s really not worth much more than the price of a ticket to the circus, 
But I find no one likes a visit to the circus like I do…
