Lütt Matten, little Matti, grown up in a small town near the Baltic coast, his glance always into the range of the endless horizons of the North German farmland. Free from rush and time, exposed to the elements and the sound of the universe, in thoughts traveling with the migration of the grey cranes, dancing to the choreography of the great crested grebe dance, raging like a finch in the hedge, free as the buzzard's flight in a summer thermals.

"Blauauge means blue-eyed, a term I was growing up with because it fits not only to the colour of my eyes. The meaning of this term sayes also, that you are acting mostly naiv or just a bit to often too good thinking, like children do. And this actually fits to me and the way I grow up in this world. About the track, it means that I was putting the elements very intuitiv together. I loved the speakig of the shaman from the first moment, it just sounds nice and makes me smile, no idear what he wants to say, the rythm and the phonetic of him was catching and inspiering me to just do a track for me. So what you here is mirrowing me very well, a part of my nature: aggresiv, strong, sensible, loved, fragile."

Daniel Brandt, co-founder of acclaimed German ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, is set to release his second solo album via Erased Tapes on October 12th. Called 'Channels', the new record follows the release of the London and Berlin based producer’s solo debut Eternal Something from 2017.

The seven-track LP is Brandt’s biggest statement yet, with the album’s thrilling avant-garde framework interweaving chord-driven techno, orchestral flourishes, rich electronic textures and hints of dark cinematic pop. Following on from Eternal Something, which captured a contemplative kind of isolationism, with Channels Brandt set out to create an album that captures the essence of minimalism whilst lending it to a more playful context. 

Intricate floor-filler and lead track ‘Flamingo’ synthesises the measured pacing of Detroit techno with an orchestral background. As with all of the tracks on Channels, ‘Flamingo’ began life as a sketch with very basic instrumentation, before taking it into the studio to rehearse with his band members, giving the album a live and visceral sound that sets it apart from his debut; “It was a great experience to do it this way as I have always wanted to have the chance to try out something in a live setting before recording it in the studio and not the other way round,” explains Daniel. “The actual typical rock band recording style that I never had the chance to do before.”

With Brandt also being skilled as a filmmaker, directing and producing visuals for BBF and Eternal Something, much of the new album’s creative ideas reference a rich visual palette. He directed the video for ‘Flamingo’, a sideways glance at the art world that takes the concept behind John Cage’s 4’33” and turns it on its head. 

“The video for Flamingo is deliberately non performance — people sitting in a room and watching basically nothing, never really sure if anything is ever going to happen. It’s also a play on John Cage’s 4’33”, except in this instance there isn’t even a performer present.” — Daniel Brandt

Daniel’s passion for film even prompted him to kick start his own online television channel Strrr.tv in 2017 that since attracted a lot of attention with guest moderators including BBC Radio DJ Gilles Peterson, modular synth legend Suzanne Ciani and Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt counting amongst the most popular episodes. 

Recorded between Berlin and London, Channels is a deeply enthralling listening experience, which sees Daniel Brandt build upon his distinctive percussive sound whilst exploring new and expansive horizons.

Those of you that have been following my work over the past years know that I am big fan of the art of editing, both, digging for and playing the edits of others and manufacturing them myself. Besides the many ones that have been released officially I made countless ones in the past years just to enhance my sets. Doing edits is simply a lot of fun, its a similar approach to remixing but yet different. There are no limits, from just editing tracks (in the literal sense) to make them longer (or shorter), DJ friendlier, or mash an instrumental of one track together with an acapella from another one to building up a complete new production and arrangement around an acapella or an instrumental, there are no limits to re-interpret the respected work of others. Today I decided to start sharing these works with you. I start today out with an edit that uses the elements of Kraftwerk’s “It’s More Fun To Compute“ and the vocals of Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force’s “Planet Rock” and put them over a rocking Electro beat. After years of playing peak time sets in clubs around the globe I became too focused on a world where everything is turned up to maximum, where screams and hands in the air are the main measure of approval. I was missing something, so I made a return to my downtempo roots with this EP for Amselcom. 

These 4 songs are the music I hear when I close my eyes and drift away. These are the soundtracks of my daydreams. 

John Cobalt's deer photograph perfectly captures my feelings of curiosity and trepidation which led me to the release of this EP.

We met @luimafuta thanks to our friends from @downvienna at a wild party at Fluc in Vienna in 2019 . We spend some nice days together and feel in love with his live set. When Jonas aka @KlangDruide then send us " A Spoon full of honey" as release proposal earlier this year, we directly had to think of Lui and knew this would be a great match. Lui took his friend Puste along with his trumpet and out came this beauty of a track. Due to Corona we could not enjoy their live performance at Klunkerkranich last Saturday the 14.03, but we hope the song puts a smile on your face where ever you are right now. 

As always with Hug Records 50% of the profit raised with this track are donated to the Water Project from @Love-Foundation. The other 50% are split equally between Artist and Label.

KlangDruide - A Spoon Full Of Honey (Lui Mafuta, Puste Remix)

Civilización y barbarie sintetiza la dualidad fundacional de la historia moderna argentina y latinoamericana. La génesis de un ideal patrio, de la construcción de una identidad que para forjarse y emerger necesita símbolos y enemigos. En Argentina, el avance de la civilización procuró el retroceso de una barbarie constituida por indios, negros y personas que se encontraban en lo más bajo de la pirámide de castas. Las palabras de Domingo Faustino Sarmiento en su Facundo y los arrasantes malones de los indios de la Pampa y la Patagonia fundieron el barro donde la historia echó raíces.

Silvio Astier explora el territorio del olvido, de lo sepultado. Se zambulle en el milagro de la trascendencia popular para contemplar la hondura de una Pampa que pareciera mantener en silencio su secreto milenario que alguna vez rascaron payadores y trovadores.
