We are so excited to have one of electro's finest, Ole Mic Odd, serving beats at NI's Detroit Brunch: Journey's End on May 25 at our beloved McShane's. The hardware-based producer & DJ is responsible for releases like "Acid Booty EP" (2019) and "Acid Booty II" (2022) on Source Material and two releases on Zement including a killer EP by him and Alonzo from 2023. His latest is "Mythical Realm" (2024) on KRI- front to back heaters! Ole Mic Odd is the label boss of The New U.S. Government.

From the deep depths of Detroit’s East Side, comes Shawescape Renegade who sometimes go by just Shawescape or in conversations, Shaw, for short. An Electro Enthusiast to his hearts core, he’s very familiar around the corners of Detroit Electro. Shaw’s first official vinyl record debut was in 2018, releasing solely on his own, to now having his own record label, Andromeda Galaxies 313 with many future projects on the horizon, set to land in 2024 and 25. He will be in Berlin this year, all of August and September and he’s also set to head to Spain in October, looking to level the playing field with a bit more Electro on the grounds. PT Show May 24 ADJ And POLADROID

Today we bring you a journey through musical genres with a very challenging versatile artist with a pretty extensive track record of releases and co-owner and 1/3 of the Science Cult label.

Stefan started DJing at the tender age of 17 playing a variety of early Techno and Dub Techno from labels such as Prime, Basic Channel, Planet Rhythm, H-Productions and more. 2 years later began experimenting with production, but having only limited tools, he made do with what he had: a demo copy of Propellerhead’s Rebirth RB-338 and the worst Macintosh ever made, a Performa 6300. Nevertheless, he kept writing and recording music using a book to keep track of song settings before the 30 minute Rebirth demo period ran out. His friends eventually all pitched in enough money to purchase him a full version of Rebirth as a gift. He remembers this time as “writing the most amount of terrible tracks ever”, but it was also how he learned to program drums and synths, put together a track and refine his process. Over time and many odd jobs later, Stefan managed to save up enough money to purchase a better computer and a few pieces of gear.

At this time, Stefan began performing live at various Dallas venues and co-ran a local artist collective known as “AI Collective”. Being surrounded by highly experienced and talented producers, he learned to hone his production skills as well as find what would become his own sound.

Over the next 7 years he experimented with various genres until he stumbled across the cinematic breakbeat sound of UK band Hybrid. During the short-lived “Progressive Breaks” era, his most notable contributions included a bootleg remix of Gary Jules’ “Mad World” cover and eventually a remix for Hybrid themselves that he and Starfire worked on together. In 2010 Stefan bid farewell to the aging progressive sound to return to his original passion: Techno. Stefan cites as his biggest influences Aphex Twin, Autechre, Plastikman, Steve Rachmad, Maurizio and more.

Since redefining his identity and sound, Stefan has been publishing original productions at an increasing pace. Stefan has been the host of the monthly “Blue Industries” show on Proton Radio since 2005. In 2019, Stefan alongside James Freer started Electro/IDM label Science Cult, which has been steadily publishing Vinyl and Digital releases.

A young Lamont Norwood started his journey in the 90s when he first modified a Casio Sk-1 Sampler with some assistance from his college friend Brian who was an engineer and liked to experiment with equipment, that led to a huge interest in the field.

His DJ story begun even before the acquaintance of the turntables at the beginning of the nineties: he started with double tape decks at a parent’s house with very limited options. But the natural mixing skills and the density of his musical background took him far beyond his dreams: about more than ten years ago, he became a professional DJ, even if his professional highlight was yet to come.

In 1996, Lamont Norwood integrated the brilliant Aux 88 as their DJ and had the pleasure to experience live shows with them for years, & even till this day enjoys a cold beer ot two with Tom Tom & BJ (Posatronix) @ Submerge. 

Around 2002 , Di'jital hooked up with Twilight 76 and DJ Godfather, and was introduced to Oliver way as his official booking agent & enjoyed touring Europe spinning @ all the hottest clubs.

His time with the UR Crew was cool also as he got to be a founding member of the Aquanauts & drop a few tunes with Underground Resistance. Lamont jokes a lot about being on so many record labels he sometimes can't keep up which is a good thing . Musically he is running multiple label and is looking forward to an upcoming APHEX TWIN, & RUNDMC , JUNGLE Remix Break Record ,  which has huge views & plays already on the underground scene.

On the Corporate tip, he is currently back in school @ the University of Phoenix wrapping up his P.H.D. in Mechanical Engineering so he can adequately fund the Pack Jam Electro Arcade Project in Downtown Detroit which he views as his gift to the youth that will carry on the legacy of DR Di'jital for years to come....

Galaxian has made a crucial contribution to modern electronic music at once de-constructing and turning it on it's head while making bold strides into unexplored territories.
Often recognised as a pioneer & innovator of an increasingly singular sound his inventiveness is only surpassed by his ability to mine consistently new seams of sound, rhythms and intricate arrangements.

Which artists has influenced you the most?

- I’d have to say Aphex Twin, mainly his earlier works, I've been revisiting some of that stuff and bits that passed me by.  Also early Underground Resistance. DJ Stingray has been a big influence for a long time and continues to be. Tons of others from various life stages, too many to mention. It usually single pieces of music that influence me the most, that can be all it takes.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I released five albums in three years between 2021-2023 so I took a step back from putting big works out for a rest, to re-appraise my work process and develop various aspects of what I do. I've went a long way towards that and I think you'll hear that in my next few releases. You're going to hear some examples of that in the mix as I dropped a few new demo tracks in there.  I'm planning some big releases and a different approach but can't say anything about those right now, I have a Naix track coming on ‘We Are Not Alone Pt. 7 (VA Compilation BPitch) on June 7th, 2024.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Same as question one. DJ Stingray, Aphex Twin, Underground Resistance? I'll be honest I find it really difficult to find many contemporary artists that I like who are consistent, who have built up a fantastic oeuvre. There's plenty of artists that do a few good things. Given that I end up disliking a lot of my own tracks, it's no surprise. I have a very high bar, maybe too high, certainly it keeps me from being complacent. Recent enjoyable listens are Cocktail Party Effect, Mumdance, 47x47, Anna Z, Scalameriya, Evar Records, Tresor Records, Ilian Tape, Lakker, Micron Audio, Rephlex.

What inspires you now to create music?

- Mostly the fact that others are not creating what I'd like to hear so I feel compelled to do it myself. A lot of ideas come from my studies in the fields of metaphysics, non-dualism, mysticism, anarchism and associated areas, travelling, everyday living and encounters. The "human" experience I suppose, whatever "human" actually is. I really thrive on all of that. When I hear a great piece of music by someone else I want to get in the studio and try create that stimulating feeling for myself.  I'm a big movie buff, I particularly enjoy some soundtracks and the sound design of certain films, that can be really inspiring too.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- Nearly all the Galaxian output has been done in FLstudio with various 3rd party plugin synths & FX. Naix has been mostly created with Native Instruments Maschine. In the last 18 months I started getting some new hardware, like Elektron Digitakt & Digitone, I love creating Naix stuff in Digitone, it's brilliant for that. I just got a lovely used MPC Live 1 and an Elektron Analog 4, I've been tinkering with those.  I can see more and more of a shift towards integrating the hardware and doing full DAW free hardware sets, which I've already done as Naix.
