Sully returns to Astrophonica for a celestial collaboration with young Manchester based vocalist Salo

Always one step ahead of the pack, Sully relinquishes the signature crusty Jungle breaks in exchange for crisp and steely, live sounding drums to provide the groove for a stripped back and crushed 808 bassline - a hi-def take on his iconic sound. This minimalist structure gives the foundations and space for Salo’s bittersweet vocals to take the lead with clarity and float off into the glorious twilight. A celestial collaboration that spotlights both artists’ strong points.

From listening to pirate radio recordings, putting on illegal parties and working for one of the UK’s original rave promoters, Greg Hepworth, aka Settle Down, has always had roots in the foundations of UK dance music. 

Settle Down’s 30 year journey began when the sounds of Fantazia drifted into his childhood bedroom at the age of 10. After wearing out cassettes of pirate radio recordings and immersing himself in a growing culture, what followed was putting on illegal raves across the South Coast and packing tapes for Dreamscape, before crossing over to Creator and releasing for Metalheadz and Reinforced as 'Ulterior Motive' and reinventing himself as 'Settle Down'.

From fan to facilitator to maker. Voyage is a documentation of Settle Down's 30 year journey through UK breakbeat culture. Presented as a recording of a 90’s rave cassette mix, it chronicles the journey through house, breakbeat, hardcore and jungle and the influences that make up these genres, a love letter to the past and an ode to the vibe. 

Voyage will be released on a limited edition mixtape cassette, 12” vinyl and digitally mixed and unmixed single tracks alongside some limited edition merchandise.

US beatsmith, Flobama, lands on Fracture's world renowned Astrophonica label.  WYGnD combines a playful use of filters, tight breakbeats and lush atmospherics to create a nostalgic yet contemporary slice of blissed out Jungle

To celebrate the EP’s crunchy, cosmic origins, Fracture and Flobama have collaborated on the Orion Sound Sample Pack, created with the Amigo Sampler and available separately from the EP. The pack features 257 scratch-built, handcrafted sounds using hardware such as Korg SV2 keys, a Mackie 1604 desk, and more—all sampled and processed in Amigo. It includes breaks, pads, and bass samples drenched in glorious 8-bit, low-sample-rate sonics—go wild.

At the start of 2012 Sabre, Stray and Halogenix teamed up to drop one of the most blissful pieces of drum & bass that year, ‘Oblique’. Since then the dreamteam have continued their late night studio sessions and are now ready to announce their new collaborative project, Ivy Lab. Kicking off Critical’s 2013 season is the first fruit of their labour, ‘Afterthought’, again featuring the esteemed vocal talents of Frank Carter III to create the most inspired start to the year we could wish for.

‘Afterthought’ is a masterpiece filled with polished breaks, melancholic chords, reversed strings and Carter’s unmistakable heart wrenching sounds that draw us into the spine-tingling production, coming as an Ivy Lab standard. A late night marcher or a summers day soother, the choice is yours for the most beautiful, teary-eyed slice of drum & bass you’ll have heard in a long time. Quality through and through.

‘Brat’ on the other hand shows the other side to Ivy Lab as the guys get aggy at the controls for a supremely sick peak-time performer. Creeping bleep FX open it up as the b-line seeps into the mix for a drop into some proper dance floor funk. Meticulous on the edits and the morphing bass, it’s a dirty yin to the A-side’s yang.

OMR005 brings us another new artist and debut EP release. Although only starting his career in the electronic scene, @arcane_official_music a.k.a Mike, is no stranger to musical diversity, with an extensive background as an instrumentalist.
Smoke & Mirrors takes us through highs and lows of rave influenced sonic experiences, drawing inspiration from many genres, but tied together in a completely unique style.
We here at Omertà feel blessed to be releasing this EP and kick starting what is surely going to be an illustrious career. Keep your eyes peeled for Arcane in the future.
