Introducing the second release in Chapter’s (http://joinchapter.com) new music series, COMPOSITION_DISORDER with artist, The KVB.  Based upon the blending of disciplines of similar mind and direction coming together as an inspiration of sorts, COMPOSITION_DISORDER, features the artist’s own uniquely conjured interpretations of dark, distorted but emotionally powerful ambient sound. By creating irregularity in compositional spaces the perspective of scale and the listener’s place is shifted.

The second of the music series, Poetics of Space, is provided by The KVB (http://facebook.com/thekvb1). The KVB is an audio/visual project of U.K. duo Nicholas Wood and Kat Day.  This U.K. duo (whom currently reside in Berlin) blend reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production to create their delicate and ephemeral sound.  Formed in 2010 by Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, The KVB got started with a number of limited cassette and vinyl releases before their first full-length, Always Then, arrived in 2012. Two more albums, Immaterial Visions and Minus One, arrived the following year, Minus One being a proper release of material that had surfaced before in the form of digital downloads and extremely limited cassettes.

Poetics of Space was influenced by the strong, minimalist aesthetic of Chapter. The work is an immersion into this concrete landscape via machine-like processing of the drums. “We tried to capture the phenomenological experience of the architecture with the textured synths and guitar to create a solitary narrative throughout this imagined space,” describes The KVB. “We’ve also recently moved to Berlin, so that may also play a part.”

Wasting no time, Eatbrain is back with another dancefloor annihilating EP. It comes from a name needing little introduction in today’s quickly rising movement of high energy neurofunk drum & bass; the badmen from New Zealand, State of Mind. 
The duo’s high-octane style of drum & bass has catapulted them through the ranks over the last few years, forging alliances with some of the genre’s foremost innovators. Their latest effort, The Full Force EP, sees State of Mind link with the infamous Budapest sound; collaborating with the likes of Mindscape, Chris.SU, and Jade himself. State Of Mind leads off with the eponymous ‘Full Force’. From the first beat, ‘Full Force’  sees SOM balance the slick, robotic aesthetics of neurofunk DNB with the confident swagger of rock and metal; The duo makes it look easy. Live instrumentation subtly sets the stage from the outset, building eventually to a concoction of paper-crisp bass and weighty, swinging drums.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. And after dominating the Beatport Top 100 with their most recent single ‘A Day That Never Comes / Snakes & Ladders’, they won’t be applying the brakes anytime soon, especially in the lead up to their greatly anticipated second album on the Ram imprint.

Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. With plucky percussion relaying you through bouncing subs and a drivingly solid bassline, it defines their vast repertoire of style. They’re not scared to dip into unfamiliar territories, with Calyx’s cool vocals sitting on top of lulling guitar rhythms to provide the first part of a diverse and brilliantly crafted record. 

‘Sawn Off’ rolls out next; it’s a grittier track than its predecessor, with a conundrum of hi-hats and aggressive drum patterns. Pounding pads take you towards a colossal break, heighten by the effect of a cleverly placed sample. The track ricochets throughout, not losing momentum or impact, with an intricately weaved structure, one only achievable by a team who’ve been running the game for decades.  

With an album laying just out of reach, each single is bringing us closer and closer to the inevitable. All four tracks prove they’re still a formidable force to be reckoned with; this LP will only emphasise that fact.
